Re: Fatigue and puffy eyes after 6 years on machine?

Under my eyes are very puffy, I believe from what I've "researched" on line it's called periorbital edema or something like that... Please be careful with your research, it's incredibly easy to come to the wrong conclusion. One problem is there are a huge number of symptoms that sound the same but ...

Re: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly: Three years later

I guess we're stuck a bit on semantics. I refuse to characterize someone as "giving up" or non-compliant when the medicine is not working. If someone loses coins in a vending machine and stops putting coins in, is that giving up? You can call this positive spin, I call it choosing to not connotate b...

Re: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly: Three years later

I suspect that it is a significant contributor to the oft quoted statistic that "50% of PAPers give up on therapy in the first year." I think we should phrase this differently. We don't give up and compliance is a non-issue. The evidence is the massive time and/or money investments we make. It's ju...

Re: I Hate This

Don't change it that often, but I did switch to the "hypoallergenic" filter and didn't seem to notice any difference in my case. I wish we all responded the same way to treatment . Stating the obvious: FattyMagoo, How often do you change the air filter on your machine? And are you using an ultra-fin...

Re: I Hate This

Thanks all. Chunky: Had the problem longer than that, but since I wasn't familiar with what sinus inflammation felt like, I guessed it was other things like dry eyes (narrowed it down over a long period of trial and error). Regarding seeing a doctor, what could they do? I've read threads from others...

I Hate This

There are other medical conditions worse than apnea and I'm grateful for the health I have. That said I hate it and it's incredibly frustrating to treat. After 2-3 nights of CPAP my sinuses are inflamed such than OTC pain killers don't allow me to concentrate at work. After a few days of "rest" my s...

Re: If you lack health insurance, consider medical tourism

>>I don't feel I should pay for somebodies bad misfortune Sure you do. I bet if a neighbor, someone in your church, etc, needed help with something there are times when you would help out with your own cash if necessary. When 9/11 happened I bet you would have even given your own blood if it was ask...

Re: Why not max out EPR and A-Flex?

"Can be set differently" Yes, but if uars/rera is not an issue why wouldn't it always be optimal to max out EPR? In the same case why would the optimal exhale pressure be zero? Is there any reason you would not want to have as much exhale relief as possible? I'm actually not sure what exhalation pre...

Re: If you lack health insurance, consider medical tourism

Does Mexico have a $99 sleep study option? Today's NY Times cover story shows a guy's hip replacement in the US that would have been around $60,000, with some paying as much as $120,000 while he went to Belgium where the cost of the hospital and surgeon for a Foreigner was around $6000 http://www.ny...

Re: What causes the sinus problems?

Chunky wouldn't an infection have to come on a little more gradually? For example I felt fine yesterday but have all those things in full force this morning... See your doctor to rule out a persistent sinus infection. Allergies "make the bed" for infections. I take an antihistamine nightly, year rou...

Re: What causes the sinus problems?

Ok Spinner I just did it, water almost came out my ears along with nose and mouth. Thanks for the suggestion I'll see if it helps... You could also make a homemade sinus spray (1 cup water , 1/4 tsp baking soda, 1/4 tsp canning salt (no additives), and get a spray bottle and use that several times a...

Re: What causes the sinus problems?

Do you feel the pressure also or just the eye stuff? I don't know if this is your problem, but I've noticed that my nasal pillow (original Swift) many times seems to blow air into my eyes, and I'm not quite sure why, since the vents point downward. My eyes itch alot and feel gritty. Although I've ne...

What causes the sinus problems?

Is there any particular problem to look for with these symptoms? - Eyes feel irritated - Pressure behind the eyes - Lasts for hours after waking up - Data looks farily normal (ex AHI 1.6). Without CPAP I have mild allergies, but it's runny nose and not this big head pressure thing. The weird part is...

Why not max out EPR and A-Flex?

Is there any reason you would not want to have as much exhale relief as possible?

I'm actually not sure what exhalation pressure is good for at all. It must required or I guess Bipaps wouldn't set any exhale pressure...
