Re: Are Follow Up Appointments Necessary?

Generally, I would say, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. However, if you have a doctor who is willing to look at your data and can add value to your treatment and you have good insurance coverage, I would say, yeah do the follow ups. However, if your doc is like mine and does not even look at the re...

Re: Should I fire my sleep doc?

Yeah, I got 24 hours beforehand to cancel. I figured it was easier to cancel over the phone then argue in person. I am such a wimp. It is amazing how many times I have had to go out of town on the appointment day with my Sleep Doctor. Yes, I need to cancel, but will call you back to reschedule when...

Re: Should I fire my sleep doc?

I don't think that you'll find another Sleep Doc in Gastonia, NC. And even if you do, those Sleep Docs are friendly with each other and you'll become an outcast in the area. p.s. Epworth is a subjective method and good for the birds. Yes Epworth is admittedly subjective, but it is more scientific t...

Re: Should I fire my sleep doc?

Wow... even if he hadn't mentioned anything about weight I would have been hunting for a new doctor. The way they were all 'I'll see if the doctor wants to see you!' Is completely foreign and a turnoff to me. You know what also gets me, he didn't even score me on the Epworth questionnaire. Sheesh!

Re: Should I fire my sleep doc?

A word of caution: if you have no intention of keeping the October appointment, then you will probably want to cancel it, rather than simply not show up. They tend to charge for broken appointments, and insurance can be stinky about paying. Yeah, I got 24 hours beforehand to cancel. I figured it wa...

Should I fire my sleep doc?

That's a rhetorical question. He's fired. I had my 2 month follow up. Here's how it went. First, I met with the nurse. Took weight, blood pressure, any new meds?, blah, blah, blah. She informed me I would not be seeing the doc, but the nurse practitioner. So, I ask, "Will anyone be interested in loo...

Thanks for doing this Pugsy. Time to dump out that massive brain of yours. Maybe it will cut down on you having to type the same old stuff over and over. You must have very strong fingers by now.

Just a guess, but by my eye that looks like only the inspiratory half of the curve is being shown. Could it be you are breathing in through your nose and exhaling through your mouth?

Re: Trying cpap mode on apap, what pressure?

Oh the joys of statistics! Great point, Pugsy. Just saying 95% is not enough, you must consider the time frame. As one who uses statistics every day in my job I would recommend a longer, but stable time frame. The longer the better. However, if the numbers are all over the place, the statistical is ...

Re: Hello! Noob question-any advice appreciated (self titrating)

According to my research, I feel quite certain it is related to opiate-related pain meds I am on, in combination with my weight (320 plus pounds, im 6' tall and male). You have made a very important step in coming here. Some of the best help on the internet is right here on this forum. It's patient...

Re: AHI Too Low For Treatment -- Where To?

Most insurance companies have shareholders to make happy, how do you make a crap load of money? Don't pay claims....they know that there are some things that will not be appealed and thats what they count on. Even delaying payment saves/makes them money. Doctors and anyone in the medical profession...

Three cheers for Mollete! Wow. How nice is that? I am not understanding quite everything either, but I only wish my sleep study was explained to me with even half this detail. I had to figure most of it out for myself and I expect there are still a few bits I am missing. Panda, I am actually encoura...

Looks like you've turned a corner. Good for you! I've had 8 nights with the AHI below 2 and I'm feeling pretty good about that too!

Re: AHI Too Low For Treatment -- Where To?

I also wanted to add: Since your insurance is probably not going to pay for a titration in any event, (they didn't for me) be sure to get an APAP with full efficacy data. Have your doc script it that way so there is no confusion or arguments with the DME. The APAP will help you settle in on your nee...

Re: AHI Too Low For Treatment -- Where To?

I am going to contact my doctor as soon as I get back in town. If my insurance refuses to pay for it, I may pay for it out of pocket at least temporarily to see if it makes a difference for me. Quality of sleep is worth the investment as far as I am concerned, and issues like poor memory are really...
