Re: Can ASV cause fatigue? Need BiPAP instead?
so I can have detailed waveform report (unfortunately SH does not have this option).. how much more "detailed" would you like it? http://i.imgur.com/3dgQB3vl.png?1 I want it that detailed: http://i1380.photobucket.com/albums/ah186/burykin/EncoreBasic_11_07_2014_18_56_50_zps5f4118fc.png This is one ...

Re: Can ASV cause fatigue? Need BiPAP instead?
I have a very limited experience (one week only and I had no software to monitor pressure waveforms) with Respironics ASV (now it is my back up machine). The latest test version of sleepyhead will display the pressure waveform. Thank you cnaumann! Now I see that the latest version of Encore Basic a...

Re: Can ASV cause fatigue? Need BiPAP instead?
a prs1 960 autoSV (asv) machines pressure fluctuates just as wildly as a resmed s9 vpap adapt 36037 machines does, Well, according to the studies that I cited in my first post this is not true (at least not true for all patients). that's what they're designed to do, maintain a ventilation rate duri...

Re: Can ASV cause fatigue? Need BiPAP instead?
But I have a question: Does Respironics BiPAP autoSV allow you to set PSmin and PSmax to the same value? That would create a BiPAP-like setting. I guess what you want is "BiPAP S/T" mode in Respironics ASV. I have a very limited experience (one week only and I had no software to monitor pressure wa...

Re: Can ASV cause fatigue? Need BiPAP instead?
Does it work Buran? Where does the hose to the CPAP go, attaching to the bottle? No CPAP is needed Only the mask and EERS (they made a hole at the bottom of the bottle). (Also, zoom out to see the whole photo with a plastic cap) As far as I know, this system (mask + EERS, no CPAP) is currently eval...

Re: Can ASV cause fatigue? Need BiPAP instead?
I am hoping that I will 'settle in' after a while. The idea of just CPAP to keep my airway open and re-breathing some CO2 to keep my brain from stopping respiration is interesting. I may have to get some soda pop bottles and duct tape and try it. If you think soda bottles and duct tape are a reason...

Re: Can ASV cause fatigue? Need BiPAP instead?
justinjustin, Look at the following presentation, starting from page 41 (pages 1-40 cover the modern implementation of EERS, see Todzo post above): http://www.northeastsleep.org/speaker-slides/2014/ness-2014-advanced-pap-titrations.pdf If you have similar “pressure cycling” as shown at p.44 you may ...

Re: ASV as a Non-ASV device - an experiment
Interesting that BPM is disabled by PSMax=0. I missed that detail in the providers manual. I also did not find this in the manual. It only says that BPM is not displayed (in the setup screen) if PSmax=0. Logically if PSmax=0, than all what ASV can do is to create a “machine triggered breath” with p...

Re: ASV as a Non-ASV device - an experiment
JDS74, Based on my very limited experience with Respironics ASV 960 (I have been testing it during last two weeks): (1). In order to use Respironics ASV as a Non-ASV device, BPM (backup rate) should be set to “Off” not “Auto”. This way you completely eliminate “machine triggered breaths” (2). My SH ...

Re: Link: Unvented Mask Improves Centrals/Periodic Breathing?
archangle Just to clarify: What is used in hospitals is “non-invasive ventilation”. A non-vented mask can be used with a ventilator without exhalation port. Note that ventilators also have CPAP/BIPAP mode. Here is the first link I found: http://socmob.org/2013/11/socmob-using-vent-dsi-dave-lendrum/ ...

This is the link to Respironics Whisper Swivel II Exhalation Port (part 332113) that must be used with any non-vented mask (including the mask that JDS74 put in trash): https://www.cpap.com/productpage/whisper-swivel-ii-exhalation-port-respironics.html Note that every time when a “non-vented mask” i...

Re: Link: Unvented Mask Improves Centrals/Periodic Breathing?
cuyahogaguy, Periodic breathing (especially if it is not cheyne-stokes, that is without central apnea) is not necessary related to any heart problems. This breathing instability could be due to chemoreflex problems. There are several methods to treat periodic breathing. See this short paper, “Single...

Re: Link: Unvented Mask Improves Centrals/Periodic Breathing?
I guess you confuse CO2 washout vent with Anti Asphyxia Valve (AAV). Since your mask has “a swivel that lets in a little air” it is a vented mask (it allows CO2 washout). However, many nasal masks and all nasal pillows do not have AAV. So, yes, “you can't breathe through the thing if the hose conne...
