Re: UARS: a different approach

What I am trying now is radically different: that is, NOT consuming any calories 16 hours before scheduled awakening. For example, if I am to get up at 7am tomorrow, then no calories (carb/protein/fat/alcohol) is to be consumed after 3pm today I’ve been doing exactly this since the spring, not for ...

Re: Anyone have experience with the Orthodontic Mouthpiece in lieu of CPAP?

I paid a chunk of change for my MAD. It did improve my sleep quality somewhat, but only when used with CPAP. But the TMJ problems are immediate and persistent. These devices also tend to be big enough that you can’t close your mouth properly - so it adds mouth breathing into the mix. I used mine for...

Re: Problems with airflow for Resmed P10

This is a very real problem, despite the efforts of some here to belittle it. I personally encountered it. Fortunately I was able to solve it by dialing back the humidity. Look in the "safe" forum at this post of mine where I previously responded to mdmarmd when he raised the issue there. The graph...

Does anyone have similar mild results as me, was being treated worth it? Did it help?
Yep. My untreated AHI is 16 and it’s enough to wake me up constantly. Once I started on CPAP I could sleep through the night for the first time in years.

Re: UARS and CPAP

Thank you for your suggestions. I wore braces for quite a long time as a teen and also remember that I had four teeth removed. I also had two nasal surgeries (turbinate reduction and adenoidectomy). So, I'm very interested in the anatomical causes for the increased airway resistance. For now I will...

Re: UARS and CPAP

I too have UARS, you might want to look for mewing/ tongue chewing on youtube, it really helps, though CPAP isn't a complete solution bc with UARS you are going to need CPAP even at daytime as I did. Palatal expansion with adult is really hard but with constant mewing/tongue chewing your maxilla wi...

Re: Reason to carry-on your xpap

Flew this week and was asked to remove my CPAP and humidifier from the bag to be run through the scanner separately. They said it's a new protocol as of a few weeks ago. Not a big deal, of course, but thought I'd share so fewer people are surprised the next time they fly. I always keep my CPAP in my...

Re: Orthodontics can cause sleep apnea - Class Action Lawsuit

This is very interesting, to say the least. My own history is similar to the original poster's. I had a severe overbite, corrected with a headgear starting at age 9 and lasting two years (1991 to 1993). I don't remember having anything explained to me except the intervention would help my overbite (...

Do I understand correctly, that you are communicating with him, one on one, and going to try to advocate for him with his health system? If so, you are a saint. If you can't deal directlly for him, can he give you the name of someone who can??? Now that we know a little more about his problems, we ...

If you know they're trivial, why waste everyone's time about them? Julie, you're out of line. His post was innocent enough, and not even addressed to you. You've now spent a few posts attacking him for it. Why? How does policing the posts of others help *anyone*? I've read through his post three ti...

Re: sleep aids

The best sleep aids will extend your total sleep time by about 30 minutes over using nothing. Basically, they don't work (for most people most of the time). Improving your sleep hygiene is the way to go, at least at first. Don't go to bed until you're very tired, so that you associate masking up wit...

Re: Classification of Users on Cpaptalk

I can never understand what difference it makes. If you think they are a troll just don't post to them. Why make an assumption about someone and then insult them on a forum. If they are indeed a troll they will enjoy it and if not well you just might do some damage. And complaining about someone no...

Re: Need some BiLevel expertise

Interestingly, my FL is equally good at lower ranges (like 10/5). It seems to track very closely with my pressure support independently of the pressure level (the higher the PS, the better). But I don't feel as good at lower ranges. I'll keep working on my leaks. I might try some higher pressures on...

Re: Need some BiLevel expertise

These values aren't particularly helpful...the calendar or the pie chart...turn them off and include the AHI breakdown on the left side. On the right side...snore graph isn't useful. Flow limitation graph might be more useful. Your leaks are pretty bad...bad enough that they could be a factor in di...

Need some BiLevel expertise

Long story short, I switched myself to a S9 VPAP Auto eight months ago after two hellish years on CPAP/APAP. Since then I’ve been cycling through different settings to find something that’s therapeutic and comfortable. My sleep is much more consistent on BiLevel than it ever was CPAP/APAP. I general...
