Re: Melatonin
Like any other medication / supplement I've heard mixed results from my patients. Some would swear by it while others said they did not feel a difference. Maybe its the placebo effect at work (??) I did have a patient once tell me that she too could go 'days(!!)" without sleeping. I was setting up a...

Re: And SleepyHead's New Software License is...
I have no clue how one goes about writing software like sleepyhead but kudos to you for having the brain to do it and the heart to offer it to everyone that needs it. Keep up the good work! I know I have mentioned you to some of my patients who wanted to download their own cpaps.

Re: Just diagnosed looking for tips before going to DME
Good cpap machine so you shouldn't have trouble there. I think one of the main issues with liking or not liking your cpap is the mask you choose. I would ask about their mask policy (as Okie bipap wrote) and try a nasal, nasal pillow and full face mask. I had customers who were mouth breathers witho...

Nice table and good price. I couldn't find one on Amazon quite as cheap (price). Thanks for sharing with us.

Re: Any one use the F&P Icon+
We used it some at the DME I worked. We (the therapist) much preferred the Respironics or the Resmed machines. No particular reason but it seemed to us that the F&P wasn't as good as the other manufacturers (with the cpap). Their mask have improved a lot lately with the Eson and Simplus mask being v...

Re: CPAP + O2 COncentrator
From my experience working with patients, the great majority do not use cpap and oxygen. Most people are just on cpap. We did have some on oxygen and cpap of course but those set ups were less common. The concentrator you are describing does sound like the Respironics concentrator (as someone mentio...

Re: Preventing bugs from entering hose
I saw many patients using a simple zip-lock bag when I visited their home. Most said it was mainly to keep dust off than for bugs.

Re: FFM vs Nasal Pillow
Working with many patients that had to use a FFM due to mouth breathing and high pressures (nasal mask not an option) they usually succeeded by doing the following: 1. Trying different mask type (as most others on this thread and board have said) 2. Once the 'best' mask was chosen and if it was stil...

Re: Poll On Changes In Energy/Well Being After CPAP
A lot of the patients I setup will usually say they dont feel any 'big' change but more of a gradual increase in energy / alertness etc.. I have had quite a few that say they didn't feel anything but kept wearing it to comply with MD orders. Then about 1 month into it they go on a weekend trip and d...

Re: Which cpap machine has an alarm clock?!
F&P is the only one I know of as well. Sorry! Working for a DME we use the Resmed and Respironics machines. Working with a sleep doc I see all types of machines being brought in by patients but have not seen an alarm on one except the F&P.
Good luck in your search.

Re: Dream Wear Mask - My opinion
I just tried this mask on a patient that has very little mobility and is pretty much on her machine day and night. She was on nasal pillows but her nostrils needed a break. She was wary of nasal mask since many have the forehead piece which obstructs her view. I didnt have the Wisp mask with me so I...

Re: Does CPAP therapy completely solve Sleep Apnea?
Agree with all the above replies. I get this question a lot from new patients and I try to be as gentle a possible when I tell them it's usually for life. I do explain that losing weight may decrease and sometimes even eliminate the need for cpap but I know that someone actually losing 20% of their ...

Re: If you had a choice...Airsense 10 Autoset or S9 Autoset
I agree with Pugsy. I would go with the latest and greatest. Most of the cpap units have 2 year warranties so if anything did go wrong you could exchange or get fixed. I have not heard too many complaints with the new Resmed machines. Patients (and doctors) seem pretty pleased with them.
