Re: Hybrid Masks for ASV?
Now that I've been set up with the hybrid mask and given a few days, I must say that I like it pretty well. I breathe far better and suffer from less congestion during the night. I have fewer night time awakenings, and my AHI is less than 3. So, this isn't too bad. So far everything is going pretty ...

Re: Hybrid Masks for ASV?
I pulled up the clinicians menu and found it quite difficult to exhale against an EPAP of 11. I was titrated with an EPAP of 11 (IPAP of 15, and later administered an ASV, but whatever, no time for life story) and a Quattro FX. The better airflow through the nose likely caused this, so now my EPAP i...

Re: Hybrid Masks for ASV?
All in all, I would say that this mask was far more comfortable than my quattro fx. I could also get a nice seal, but my AHI increased dramatically. If I had to guess these numbers changed because of the change in mask, since this is far outside of the normal AHI range (2.0-4.5, with the occasional ...

Re: Hybrid Masks for ASV?
My doctor actually had a few lying around. She fitted me for a liberty mirage, which I left the sleep center with. I was also told that if I like the mask, she can call the script in. So far it seems promising. I will know how it goes after sleeping with it on this evening. I look forward to it. May...

Hybrid Masks for ASV?
I am visiting my doctor soon (today), and have considered switching to a hybrid mask. I was wondering about: 1) the feasibility of using a hybrid mask with an ASV unit, 2) if it as position restrictive as a full faced mask, 3) individual experiences with hybrid masks/comfort, 4) how well hybrid mask...

Quattro FX: Cushion Detaching From Mask
Background: When I sleep the cushion on my Quattro FX detaches from the plastic portion of the mask. After boiling the silicone cushion this happened only twice last night (thankfully only once while I was sleeping), but the night before it happened um... far more frequently (all during sleep). I th...

Re: theophylline helps?
I am in agreement with Mr. Fisher on the ASV. It is a life changer. I had a rough path a few months back, but I stuck with it and my doctor. I've had really good luck on all of this. Don't be afraid to talk to your doctor. Often doctors are willing to answer questions, and try treatments if they can...

Re: Cognitive Behavior Therapy for Insomnia
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is used on a number of conditions, usually with good success rates. I'm sure that there are other studies on it being applied to insomnia, but found this quickly: http://www.hta.ac.uk/fullmono/mon808.pdf . This website gives a summary of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: htt...

Re: Have you ever almost gone psychotic from lack of sleep?
Before treatment there was a trend toward anger, depression, what would appear to be bouts of mania, brain fog, etc. I did not perform mental tasks quite as clearly as before. For the most part I would just say that general "sharpness" and mood were severely affected. For a time there the doctors th...

Re: What does "rested" feel like?
Let's see. Just as most people, I'm not quite there, but have had effective treatment for a few month, so I would say I'm well on my way (70% or so, 85% on good days, and 10% on bad days, if I had to guess). I'm not even all the way there, and I've noted better improvements in exercise (strength and...

Re: ASV ipap range question
I noticed when I've also noticed that my AHI and sleep quality suffer quite a bit if I'm congested. Sometimes I use a neti rinse if the congestion is severe (I will boil the water and allow it to cool, or will mix with distilled water, of a lower temperature. Otherwise I will follow the usual direct...

Re: Facebook Etiquette and CPAP
A part of me says PM, but then another side of me says post publicly, complete with links, studies, etc. As long as your friend is given the message (whether privately or publicly), and the benefits are given in an understandable manner then you've done a service, I think. Also, referring your frien...

Re: Simple Question about the BPM and TI on BiPAP ASV System One
Thank you guys for the answers. Unfortunately, I caught myself starting to chase numbers. I should have been thankful with the numbers I had. I did try the auto. Not nearly as much aerophagia, and the PTB did improve. The AHI did increase a touch (still 2-4 is a good range, especially when they are ...

Re: Grieving the fact that my body fails to adequately breathe
I remember how surprising it was for me when I found something was going ary. When in my undergrad years I felt my focus waning, and fatigue setting in when I was at my maximum bodyweight (to date). I dropped the weight, and much of it went away, but not all of it. I still had a mental fog that pers...

Re: Simple Question about the BPM and TI on BiPAP ASV System One
jamiswolf, Agreed. The ASV has far more moving parts, and is definitely more complex than a CPAP. I do not know the algorithms in these little "black boxes". I may have ideas about them, but have no idea how much it will increment up, how quickly the unit will react to an event, or anything. So, I d...
