Re: How long do you think you could last without CPAP?

I don't know and don't want to find out. Before I got on the ASV, I was physically exhausted and mentally drained. The mental aspects of Sleep Apnea were really taking a major toll, depressed, irritable, no patience, and not thinking quickly or clearly. If I kept going down that road, would have pro...

Re: Snr Sleep physician says AHI of 10-15 acceptable

Wow I would try and find another Sleep Dr. Had the same issue with mine, she tried to tell me people on my machines rarely ever get under 12's. Luckily this site has educated me quite a bit, so I was able to dispute most of what she was saying. Finally she said, "oh, I can tell you've been reading u...

(Poll) How Many Hours Do You Sleep A Night?

Noticed a big difference in the amount of sleep I get and my energy levels the next day. Even an extra hour seems to help dramatically. Usually get from 6 to 7, and anything over 7 I feel MUCH better.
How about you guys?

Re: Doctor Visit Shockingly Lame

When I mentioned to my new Dr. that I was on an ASV, he asked me "what's an ASV"?... I was kind of shocked at that remark, don't they even mention these kinds of things in passing at Medical School? Then when I went to visit the sleep lab lady with still high AHI problems in the 13's range, she basi...

Re: I hate CPAP.

Yes none of us like to have to do this, but like others have said there are far worse things to deal with. Along these same lines I had a "different" kind of day today that kind of relates. Woke up this morning after sleeping a full 8 hours for a change, and felt excellent. My AHI for last night was...

Re: Effects Of Caffeine?

Hi John, I was a Coca-Cola junkie most of my life. Gave it up 3 months ago now, along with candy as well. They were also my last vices, but in the long run I think it's the best thing I've done in a long time. It's not easy, and at times I really miss having a Coke, but after finding out more about ...

Re: The end of methadone and the end of apnea...

Glad to hear your still working on things, and your PTB's are so good these days. Sorry to hear it's such a balancing act between pain and the med's, kind of a rock and a hard place deal. Maybe your Dr. can come up with another alternative to the methadone to add to your MMJ regiment that won't caus...

Re: Upper respiratory illness + BiPAP = Worst AHI since starting

Can serious body-shaking coughing lead to events being scored that might not be "real" events? Yes, I have also found this to be the case. I noticed while I'm awake, if I swallow with my mask on a certain way, I will hear a "chunk chunk" sound (air flow getting interrupted inside the mask), and it ...

I am 51 and have Complex Sleep Apnea. I know I've had Central Sleep Apnea all my life, and I used to wake up gasping for air as a child. Lucy I would think if you have Complex Sleep Apnea you should be using an ASV of some kind to deal with the Centrals instead of just a regular Cpap machine, unles...

Re: ASV Complex Sleep Apnea question

When you schedule your sleep study, ask to talk to the manager of the sleep technicians. Then explain your situation. That should help them focus on helping you titrate away those hypopneas. They will try to make certain to minimize your hypopneas without causing too many central apneas at the same...

Re: Oddly, All Distilled Waters Are Not Equal

Someone else mentioned minimum wage High School Kids at Walmart making this stuff. That might be fine if I'm just using it in my car battery, but if I have to breath in heated vapors I may want to play it a little more safe. After closer inspection of the label from my Distilled water, I'm getting a...

Wow, just when you think some parts of this therapy are no brainer's you read something like this! We have also been using the Walmart brand for almost a year with apparently no problems, however we also dump it every morning, let it dry out and refill every night with fresh substandard Distilled wa...

Re: ASV Complex Sleep Apnea question

Thanks again John for your input, I agree with your logic on this. No, there are no other issues involved, other than the Complex Sleep Apnea. Take no medications of any kind, and have no other medical issues. With the settings I have now, there are no CA's, or obstructive's, mainly LOTS of hypopnea...
