I see. I was wondering if the hernia limits breathing and if lung capacity increases if it's cleared up.greatunclebill wrote:both are physical conditions. i have both and don't see any connection.

Hiatial Hernia and Sleep Apnea
I was wondering if anyone has access to info on whether there is a connection between having a hiatial hernia and that being the cause of sleep apnea. I see some posts about CPAP causing a hiatial hernia but not the other way around. I am actually interested in any info related to cpap and sleep apn...

I lost weight and my pressure requirements went UP. The opposite of what I thought would happen. Maybe you are experiencing the same issue?

Re: Is the Sleep Study necessary vs. just buying an APAP m/c?
I'm assuming you are in overall good health since you saw 4 different docs and they couldn't find anything wrong. That's exactly what I would do knowing what I know now. Not to mention a sleep study is pure torture and I will never do one again. Look on craigslist you can probably find a new APAP ma...

Re: Ooops! Texas Gov. Rick Perry with Sleep Apnea
Check out this line from his staff, I had a good laugh when I read it resolved after a few weeks magically. Lol. "The Governor's July 2011 back surgery and his late entry into the presidential race presented obstacles during his campaign. Gov. Perry was diagnosed with mild sleep apnea during the cam...

S9 Card Only Holds One Year Of Data?
Hi. So I just noticed my S9 hasn't recorded the last few nights of data. I also noticed it stopped recording now that the card is holding 365 nights of data. Am I supposed to either buy a new card or wipe this one clean in order to get the data to work again? Thanks for the help!

Lost weight...and AHI has steadily risen
Any of y'all have an explanation for this happening? I dropped weight and my AHI has gone from being around 2-3 to 5-6 over the past few months. I am starting to think it must have something to do with my weight drop since I can't think of what else would be the issue. My leaks have been very low an...

Re: Afrin is bad, but what about vick nasal inhalers?
I always thought Vicks was more or less a placebo. I use it when I have a cold because I like the menthol scent. I doubt there is any downside to using it if it helps you get off Afrin.

Anyone have luck with a tongue retaining device
or experimenting with tongue positioning in reducing your OSA symptoms? I have been wondering lately if my tongue slipping back when I sleep is part of my OSA or not.

Re: Do you know anything about Maxillomandibular Surgery?
soundersfootballclub and CatherineF, Both of you tried the dental appliance and it did not work. You both seem to think that in hindsight that it makes sense that the device did not work for you. Why did your dentist think it would work before you got it? What criteria did your dentist use? Do you ...

Re: Do you know anything about Maxillomandibular Surgery?
I bought an oral appliance after being told by my sleep doc and sleep dentist I was a good candidate. Unfortunately it doesn't work, luckily I can at least use it as a bite guard. I doubt anything outside of CPAP is > 50% effective in treating OSA. Think about it. Your throat is most likely collapsi...

Re: Do you know anything about Maxillomandibular Surgery?
90% effective? Hmm. I have been told it's a 50/50 success rate by several different docs. That actually sounds optimistic to me because oral appliances aren't even that effective and this surgery is essentially doing the same thing. Those aren't great odds if that is the case. I have also been told ...

Re: Get Equipment from DME or Online
I buy everything online. There are some good deals out there on new S9 machines if you shop around. From what I understand the DMEs are always going to be more expensive if you are paying out of pocket. Bring it all to your doctor's office and ask them how to show you how everything should fit and w...

Re: Relationship Between Apnea and Diabetes
My question is - how does stress impact the effectiveness of treatment for either and/or both conditions? Some would argue stress is just as unhealthy as either of these conditions if not kept in check. This is a great book if you haven't heard of it: http://www.amazon.com/Why-Zebras-Dont-Get-Ulcer...
