Thanks all for your responses. Oceanpearl: Congrats on your 27lb weight loss! I'll have to check into Sugar Busters. I too am convinced that the enemy here are carbs. I think I am a...OK, I'll admit it...I'm a carbaholic! I love pasta, desserts and BREAD! My excess weight is from my food choices. Ge...

Echo-
I have had good results using Polident strips. For our purposes, first, I wet my lips, then I just run the strip once thru running water and then immediately place between my lips and close tightly for about 15 seconds.

I hope this works for you.
Good Luck,
Barb

The Zone Diet

Hi- I have not posted in awhile, but am still a loyal user of my bipap and Swift II. I spent the day in the E.R. yesterday for what I thought were episodes of chest pain. After an exercise stress test, negative cardiac enzymes and a CT of the chest to Rule out Pulmonary embolism, I was given good ne...

Hi Bob- Yes, wet your lips with tap water, then run the strip thru the water, then apply between lips. Close mouth and let set...do not try to open mouth until well set. Once set, you can still open your mouth, if you need to. But once your mouth has opened, you have broken the seal, and you must re...

Gary- If I were you, I would work on treating the nasal stuffiness. I too have had great difficulty adjusting to a full face mask. I prefer to use a nasal pillow and I use the Swift. Here are some of my thoughts regarding stuffed nasal passages: 1- What have you tried so far? 2- A decongestant (Suda...

So Sorry that you are not feeling well! When that happens to me, I use Afrin 1-2 sprays in each nostril at bedtime only. I've been told that if you use it once daily, then one can use it for 6 nights instead of only 3. I also use Sudafed (if your Blood pressure can handle it). If the nasal congestio...

Thanks for the interesting post! Is this related to the patients who also reported "sleep-eating"?

I use the fleece hose cover for the hose to eliminate moisture in the hose. I use the fleece mask covers to eliminate facial marks. My husband has commented that he thinks having the fleece hose cover makes the whole CPAP system looks less clinical and more like a bedroom accessory!

I just remembered that several years back my son was using a steroid inhaler for his asthma. THe directions tell you to rinse your mouth after each use to prevent fungal growth. Well, he never did rinse his mouth and he began complaining that his mouth was sore and when I looked inside, he had white...

I also use Culturelle. I take it prophylactically every time I go on antibiotics. It will prevent diarrhea and yeast infections. My daughter's gastro MD recommended it for her and now I take it as well.

Good Luck James. Have you seen an ENT?

I'll share my success story with you. I was referred to a neurologist for muscle problems. In addition to a full neuro exam, she also screened me for OSA and 2 sleep studies later and 2 months later I had my Resmed Auto. Actually, after my first failed sleep study, the neurologist offered to set me ...

Regarding the cockroach issue: when we travel, I always put the mask in a two gallon size baggie and zip it closed with only the hose sneaking out that is still connected to the humidifier. I also cover the machine with a bath towel. I also let it run for about a minute before I put on the mask. THo...

New2- I understand your concern. I am no longer a young single; however, if your date ever goes to the bathroom in the middle of the night, he will see your mask while you are sleeping. The bigger picture is, of course, IMHO, to get to know this person really well first, if this person is mature eno...

Personally, I have found that none of them are effective for me. The air still escapes from my closed lips. I have been very happy with Poligrip strips.

Jskinner- Thanks for that link. It was an interesting article. It discusses the dangers of using Benzalkonium as a preservative. While the Neilmed is preservative free, the OCEAN spray that I keep at my bedside is not. It contains Benzalkonium chloride as a preservative. I think I will find a replac...
