Re: Took the mask off in my sleep
It's 100% normal. If it happens frequently, it's a problem. If it happens only every once in a while, don't worry. I did it once. Took off my mask and slid it underneath my pillow without turning off my machine. Woke up in the morning with the mask still blowing under my pillow. I'd had some crazy d...

Re: How Often Do You Change Hose
I started with my first hose in May last year. It cracked in November. The duct tape wore out last week, so I decided it was time to replace it, rather than add more duct tape.

Re: Is this normal, low, or high on CPAP?
AHI below 5 is considered "normal". If you got an AHI of below 5 in a lab sleep study, you'd be declared to not have OSA. So, any AHI below 5 is considered to be effective treatment of your OSA with CPAP. Many of us strive for a lower AHI of below 2 or so, because we feel better when it's lower. An ...

Re: Service Dogs For Sleep Apnea?
I call BS. In order to have a service dog, 2 criteria must be met. First, the individual must be disabled. Second, the dog must be trained in tasks to mitigate the individual's disability. Now, anything is possible, but sleep apnea is generally not considered a disabling condition. It's treatable wi...

Re: I need help with a longer shovel :-)
The difference is that the DME is getting the same amount of money from the insurance company for both machines. But the auto machine costs them more. If they can keep you from getting an auto, they make more money. Easiest solution is to get your doctor to write the prescription for the auto. Anoth...

Re: I am ashamed of my cpap?
If a guy is worth it, he won't care! My boyfriend found out pretty early in our relationship (although I've known him for about 6 years). I was having issues with the DME and complained about it to him. He asked (he's a recent widower, so he was understandably anxious about my health), so I told him...

I won!!!
The DME was trying to restart my rental period when I changed insurance companies. They thought that, just because the new insurance company allowed a 12 month rental, that it was perfectly ethical and moral to bill for the whole 12 months, even though my old insurance company had already paid off 5...

Re: Where do most people put the hose?
My mask and headgear allow me to attach the hose to the top of my head. I do that, and from there (making sure there's some slack for tossing and turning easily) I run the hose under my pillow from the middle of the top over to the bottom of the side closest to the machine. This way the hose stays p...

Re: Aloha vs Opus 360 Mask?
Good question! I've also been eyeballing the Aloha, in case it's better than the Opus. I actually planned on ordering it last week, but instead got into an argument with my DME over how many payments were left on my machine rental...

Re: CPAP machine noise...
I haven't noticed much difference in noise at different pressures (between 8 and 10). One thing that can increase your perception of the noise is if you have the C-flex or A-flex turned on. It doesn't actually make it louder, but it varies the noise as you inhale and exhale, making it more noticeabl...

Re: Changing insurance restarts rental???
I changed insurance effective September 1. So I'm now 7 months into the "new" rental period. So I can't really take my business to another DME at this point. The new insurance company does not charge a deductible if I go through my primary care provider, and I had a referral from them for the CPAP, ...

Changing insurance restarts rental???
My DME is now telling me that, because I changed insurance companies 5 months into my rental, that the rental period started over. This is, of course, a different story than the one they told me in August, when I gave them my new insurance company information and asked them what would happen. I was ...

Re: Can you use APAP nighlty or is it a temporary thing?
Here's the thing about all the APAPs out there... They can all be operated as CPAP. So it's 2 machines in one. Also, there's no reason why you can't just run it in APAP all the time, if you have it set to an appropriate range.

Re: Data or No Data
Will you obsess over your data? Probably. At least at first.
For the first month or so, I would download my data every single morning and spend 10-20 minutes looking at it all. But that didn't last. Yesterday was the first time I'd downloaded data in about 2 months.

Re: OT: Drugs for Migraines
I would definitely encourage her to see her doctor and get a prescription for a migraine med. If she's never seen a doctor for migraines before, they will probably want to do a CT scan of her head just to make sure there's no underlying cause. They might also refer to a neurologist. But the triptan ...
