Re: Do you wear mask when you feel sick?
I've only been on CPAP for a year and only sick once during that year. Yes, I wore the mask anyway despite being sick. I thought I would feel worse without it. I too was worried about vomiting with the mask on. Mine is nasal pillows, so not too bad but still I was concerned about it. But I did it an...

Re: Travel size machine recommendation
I travel frequently and have to agree with what archangle said in one of his posts. The machine is not the problem. All of the current machines are quite small and easy to carry around. The problem is everything that goes with it - the humidifier, the hose, the mask, a backup hose, a backup mask. T...

Re: What is your plan B?
1. Get an oral appliance - probably not going to work as a "permanent" solution if you have severe apnea, but it may help reduce the apnea rate so that you at least get some rest. Sleep in a recliner to reduce the effects of gravity - don't have it reclined all the way, otherwise it will be like ly...

Re: What is your plan B?
Are you talking about a disaster or civil emergency like the Japan Earthquake/Tsunami or Hurricane Katrina? Honestly, I am not prepared for something like that. I have a backup battery which will buy me three days of sleep. Beyond that, I have no backups. My machine is not in a packed ready-to-go st...

Re: Funny Snoring Stories
When camping in England, pre-CPAP, I woke one early morning to find a small group of English people standing at a campsite across from mine - all staring at me. One of them asked a bit hesitantly if "All Americans snore like that."

Re: what do you take when YOU travel?
I go with simpler as well. Just the machine, the mask the tubing and the adapter. I do keep a copy of my prescription in the carry case. But I even leave the humidifier at home. It's just lighter and less stuff to keep up with on the road.
If camping, the battery comes also.

How often do you replace your mask?
I have an Opus 360 that is going on a year old and seems to be doing fine. Not having excessive leaks, AHI is 3.5 and I feel pretty good. But from reading posts here I get the impression that most people replace their masks much more frequently. My DME wanted me to replace it at 90 days but it seeme...

I just walked five miles.
Five years ago I was as fit as I have ever been. Six miles was my usual treadmill routine and I lifted weights. Then I shattered my right ankle in an accident. Gained thirty pounds in the year after. Gained another 30 this past year, partly due to medication changes. A year ago I was struggling with...

I don't understand this avatar obsession of yours, but here I am, shown in a more casual setting. My children Luke and Leia prefer to see me like this, rather than with my mask on. But what can I say? I'm Vader!, I like my mask!!! http://i1120.photobucket.com/albums/l495/yorktown3/unmasked3.jpg You...

Re: POLL: What was your AHI at your diagnostic sleep study?
AHI: 103.8 Total Sleep Time: 364 minutes Avg SpO2%: 89% Min SpO2%: 61% Never reached Stage 3 sleep Now my AHI averages about 7.2 (still in my 1st month of treatment, I see the nurse practicioner again in a week) I feel much better and am looking forward to getting my AHI below 5 and getting even bet...

Re: Battery Review: N-C18500 Li-Ion CPAP Battery
Having worked a number of years in the battery industry I would add the following for the (any) Li-ION pack - keep temperature below 45 degrees C, even in storage (try to avoid direct sunlight) as battery capacity will be degraded and can not be fully recovered - never charge unattended. Even with ...

Re: one-day surgery and cpap
I had never thought of my CPAP and how that would work with an anesthetic... so I need to plan that whenever I have to go to the hospital I should have my CPAP with me? Whoa.

Re: Battery Review: N-C18500 Li-Ion CPAP Battery
Re: overheating A lithium battery is not going to get hot enough to melt plastic unless it's having a major malfunction and is about to die. If it gets that hot for whatever reason, the cells will probably have a very short lifetime. It might be warm enough that you wouldn't want to be sleeping on ...
