Sorry for taking my sweet time replying -- go into Reader, and click "subscribe." In the box, put http://wiredapneic.blogspot.com for the URL. All blogspot blog URLs point to their RSS feeds, so that's all you need.

Re: 12 years on cpap and it's time to move on.

Seems like C killer is a hater. Don't be a hater! A hater who makes a solid point. HOWEVER, since this is just in the realm of medical studies and nobody can buy the darn thing yet, it's pretty harmless if she's right and you're just doing some ineffective marketing. Unfortunately, a clamoring publ...

Re: Great quote from my ENT

Did you ask if he can clone himself for the rest of us? Hah! Completely slipped my mind. I'll be seeing them again tomorrow to have stints from my surgery removed; I'm going to ask if they'd consider taking over as my primary sleep doctors. If they agree to do that, I'll pass the good word along. I...

I'll say this -- with Nose Pillows, I have no problems, but wearing a FFM, your head needs to be near the edges in order to side-sleep.

Re: 12 years on cpap and it's time to move on.

I just checked out their animation, studies, and looked around the site. One big thing jumped out at me: This is for tongue-based OAs only. RERAs, CAs, and hypopneas aren't addressed. Also, if your obstructions are caused by any other means, let's say a larger then necessary uvula, this isn't useful...

Have it. Love it. Won't give it up until it's pried from my cold dead hands.

Great quote from my ENT

I was at my ENT today for a mid-week checkup after my partial turbinectomy and septoplasty. When I was sitting with the doctor, I saw the American Board of Sleep Medicine certificate on the wall. So, I decided to check out the corporate sleep doctor's ideas about autoset. After all, my (old) sleep d...

Re: Tales of low-moderate treatment?

I just don't know why I'm so resistant! CPAP sucks. It's just that it usually sucks less than the other alternatives. Yep. But it's a hell of a lot better than waking up a million times a night out of breath, crushing headaches in the morning, and an extra layer of depression. Since removing the fo...

Re: another reason to use distilled water:brain-eating-amoeba

I'm sure there's some teensy percent of a percent of risk, but you'd have to have a tube that was constantly soaking wet, and a lot of contaminated water. The stars would have to line up pretty damn perfectly for this to be a reasonable xPAP risk as well. However, it's good that you thought to sprea...

Re: Tales of low-moderate treatment?

I'll submit that I was diagnosed at an AHI of 29, and CPAP has changed my life. I felt shitty all. the. time. I honestly feel like CPAP gave me my life back. I've been under treatment for 6 months, and I've never felt better (outside unrelated issues).

Tales of low-moderate treatment?

Hey all, A friend of mine got diagnosed as "low-moderate", and she decided not to pursue CPAP. She doesn't remember her AHI, but says she thinks it could be in the low 30s (which my doc says is the low end of severe). Low-moderate could mean the 5-15 range as well. Since we don't have an exact numbe...

Re: AHI is up to 6.7 with CPAP? How to fix it?

She'd likely expect one of the following, and it really depends on the doctor. 1. Increase the range to 5-20, since 10 may not be enough to support her during those hypopneas. 2. Move the range, as Bayou explained. Pushing from 5-10 to 8-13 might make a difference. Since we can change the settings o...

Re: Turbinate removal or reduction? Please get informed first.

Before having turbinate reduction or turbinate removal, please consider one set of potential adverse side effects: Empty Nose Syndrome (google is handy). Seconded! While most ENT's are very conscious of this, I had heard about it and asked my ENT if this was a risk. I won't quote her directly, but ...
