Re: Speak to Me of UPSes (Uninterruptable Power Supply)

Hmm. As I ponder my longer-term solutions, I notice that my Vagabond Mini has an inverter that appears to be detachable. I wonder if I could use the VM without inverter using the appropriate cabling* and get more juice out of it <checks manual>.

Re: Speak to Me of UPSes (Uninterruptable Power Supply)

I think the best solution would be to add a battery to your solar system so it will last through the night .... Or fix the generator so it starts automatically. that would make it available to the rest of the house also. Those are undoubtedly the best long-term solutions. Apparently, when we built ...

Re: Speak to Me of UPSes (Uninterruptable Power Supply)

So....do you have any constructive alternative suggestions, given the specific circumstances I describe? I had one of these https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MA4YVNP/ref=dp_prsubs_2 but they are not well rated. Do you use a humidifier? How about heated hose? Both of those things increase the amount of b...

Re: Speak to Me of UPSes (Uninterruptable Power Supply)

UPSs are terrible solutions for CPAP use. The are expensive, terrible capacity and don't provide DC output. Here's a list of good UPS options for CPAP use: So....do you have any constructive alternative suggestions, given the specific circumstances I describe? Perhaps my initial post was unclear. I...

Re: New Battery and Amp-Hour Data

So...if I want to adapt this setup, not for the road, but for home use when we frequently lose power in the middle of the night (solar system, we didn't buy enough storage batteries, rookie mistake), will the "battery tender" keep me from aging the battery prematurely if I keep it plugged in to wal...

Re: Speak to Me of UPSes (Uninterruptable Power Supply)

I don't know what 'reasons' it's because, but a 12 volt mobility scooter battery, (not a car battery) really is the least expensive, most capable power solution. Heh. Honestly, because, despite being in the wilderness, my bedroom looks really nice and I thought a car battery sitting beside my bed w...

Re: Speak to Me of UPSes (Uninterruptable Power Supply)

Well, yes. I was hoping for people's experience with particular models. There is quite a price range and I don't want a $600 model if the $149 version works.

Speak to Me of UPSes (Uninterruptable Power Supply)

Greetings! I face the following challenge in off-grid living. Our new house in the wilderness is run on solar power with a backup generator. Power systems of this sort being somewhat finicky, we sometimes run out of stored power in our battery bank before sunrise, and the generator, for reasons know...

MEW! MEW! MEW!

No kittens were harmed in the creation of this analogy.

The same cannot be said of DMEs. But one gets less attached to them.

Re: List of CPAP Repair Companies.

If you have a DME, many of them can get your machine repaired as well. Unfortunately, many mis-interpret the rules and think they can only repair the machines of those who are already patients (i.e. have a current prescription with them). To change settings, yes they do, but you aren't asking them ...

Re: So what is considered the Rolls Royce of CPAP Machines

I don't know if I "own" my machine or it is rented by my carrier (Aetna). CPAP was my introduction to some of the more bizarre aspects of medical billing. There are actually three contracts: between you (well your employer) and Aetna, between you (as an individual) and your DME, and between your DM...

Re: emptying water on travel

A lot of times I leave the humidifier at home when I travel by air, in order to free up space in the bag for my other medical supplies--which is another way to solve the problem.
