Re: dry mouth with full face mask

Are you aware that the heated humidity can actually make nasal breathing worse? It can cause swelling of the tissue in the nasal passages and closes them off. Have you tried turning your humidifier heat setting to "OFF" and using "passover" humidification (water in tank but no heat)? In the area yo...

Re: My experience with Provent

I think the comment below by NottaTherapist (A comment which seems to have been both overlooked and misunderstood.) is very intriguing, is dead on and points out what was so obvious that there is reluctance to admit I did not think of it. This sounds like BiPAP in reverse??? 10 cm (or 8 ) EPAP and 0...

Re: Making a choice between machines

Stutz I am pretty much in the same situation as you as a Respironics user. The latest Respironics might be a little better machine but when I buy a new machine it will be the ResMed S9 Autoset so that I will have experience with both brands. You can download the ResScan software free from the ResMe...

Re: Melatonin

I'm taking a prescription sleeping pill and would like to get off it completely. I would like to try Melatonin but unable to buy it in Japan due to regulations. Can anyone recommend a good brand to take, and without any added chemicals? Thanks! Emeraude Have you downloaded the software from the Res...

Re: Sleep Apnea and Parkinson's

That can throw off the numbers and lead, at least temporarily, to some people drawing conclusions (as in, assumptions) that are not scientifically established. Yet. I thought it was widely understood that we act every day in many ways on knowledge that has never been scientifically established. It'...

Re: A new apnea patient's journey - starting with Provent

Where is there evidence that avoidance of supine sleep in anyone other than someone with positional apnea would be more effective than Provent? It is in every decent sleep study that has ever been undertaken where the patient slept in more than one position. A meta analysis of tens of thousands of ...

Re: A new apnea patient's journey - starting with Provent

You might not want to be too cocky at this stage since you have entirely overlooked the easiest, most comfortable (for most people), most widely used, and cheapest option that anyone in your situation should absolutely try first. I don't know why you want to play games but the only thing you could ...

Re: Sleep Apnea and Parkinson's

There is vast medical data that Parkinson's leads to Sleep Disorders. [/b] I do not believe that scientists have sorted out which is cause and which is effect, if either, regarding the high correlation of sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) and Parkinson's. The motor symptoms of Parkinson's disease re...

Confusing cause and effect?

I think it is more likely that untreated sleep apnea causes Parkinson's disease.

You had a sleep study. What was your AHI? What levels of desats did you have? What was your RDI?

Re: I think I registered, can't find profile

Thanks Pugsy, Everything is going to be on hold for a month for my treatment. I'm going on a trip until almost the end of May. Since I'm having so much trouble being compliant with the machine I decided to leave it home. Seems silly to lug is along on the airplane, etc. if I'm having so much diffic...

Re: CMS 50F Oximeter

From what I've read, when one boils down all the things that a CPAP machine does, the big one is keeping one's blood oxygen above 88%. The night of my sleep study my blood oxygen saturation never fell below 92%. However I had an AHI of 57 which was making me a very unhealthy puppy. The "big one" fo...

From what I've read, when one boils down all the things that a CPAP machine does, the big one is keeping one's blood oxygen above 88%. not z'actly. i bought a cms50-d+ to show my wife who wasn't using her cpap, what it was doing to her o2. as predicted her o2 was too low below 88% and she started c...
