Re: Ideal Protien Diet - weight loss and Sleep Apnea

+1 for the low carb or ketogenic lifestyle. I've lost 90+ lbs. on a ketogenic diet. As I first started losing weight, my pressure needs went UP; after about a year, they went down slightly. I still need my cpap even though I'm no longer in the overweight or obese category. And also count me in as on...

Re: Sick of the Machine - Need a Cause, Need a Cure

Finally, switching gears, as someone who is thin, I don't understand why people are discouraged from thinking that losing weight might cure their apnea. Just because people like me have sleep apnea doesn't mean that folks who are overweight might not have a chance of curing their apnea if they lose...

Re: Swift FX v Swift LT: your thoughts

Thanks, Doc. Did you have any issue with the hose connection bumping on your noggin with the LT? When I look at the pix I just wish the LT hose was a few inches longer ... No, it was fine. I have a hose hanger thingie that kind of juts out over my pillow (slightly to the side). The hose seemed to f...

Re: NEW, IMPROVED TAP PAP MOUTHPIECE!

Oh geez...now I think I'm going to have to break down and order this. I've been resisting it because my DME doesn't carry it (and apparently for some odd reason can't order it--but I really LIKE my DME otherwise). I'll have to pay completely out of pocket for it...but as much as I love the Bella loo...

Re: Swift FX v Swift LT: your thoughts

I like them both! I used the LT exclusively for quite a while mainly because of being able to route the hose over my head. Then the FX Bella loops came out and I switched. However, I still use my FX with my travel machine because it is very stable regardless of where I have to put my machine. At hom...

Re: 2 Year Mark - Giving up

I can really empathize with your frustration! I'm a little over 2 years on CPAP and am just now beginning to really solve my sleep problems. HOWEVER, treating my OSA was only the FIRST step to sleeping and feeling better....not the last step. Without treating the OSA, you can never really figure out...

Re: BULLETPROOF COFFEE -- FOR WEIGHT LOSS

Nate....re your butter question: I think there is a tiny taste of butter. I put about a tablespoon in my coffee (along with coconut oil and MCT oil). The idea still works even if you don't use butter. MCT oil has NO taste. Virgin coconut oil is wonderful in coffee (especially if you throw some unswe...

Re: Diet: Eat Fat!

Ahhhhh.....fat coffee! I'm never hungry in the mornings, and my 2 cups of fat coffee are perfect and keep me going until late in the afternoon. Fat coffee = a cup of coffee with some MCT oil, coconut oil, and Kerrygold butter with a splash of heavy cream. BTW, I've also lost over 80 lbs. since Janua...

Re: ZEO users: How well does ZEO data predict daytime function?

I've been using Zeo now for about 2 years...they were still a very new company when I got my first one. For me, the critical score to look at is how much actual deep and REM sleep I get (not a percentage of a whole--how many minutes). It is now very consistent: most nights I'm over an hour on each o...

Re: Zeo fans!

Thanks for the head's up on this! It's working fine and I just ordered two more packets of 3....6 sensors for $49 w/free shipping is a good deal. My sensors last about 6 - 8 months, so this will keep me going for a long time.

Re: Detective work needed when we don't feel the good numbers

Great thread! I'm one of those who has now spend a little over 2 years unraveling my sleep issues. Getting my SA under control was just the FIRST thing. Fortunately, even though I had an extremely difficult six-month adjustment period, I now love it and can't think of sleeping without it. But that d...

Re: Anybody used cpap in hospital lately?

I'm so sorry to hear about the bad hospital/cpap experiences. I've been in two different hospitals since June of this year, and each one was absolutely great about my cpap. Both asked about it at the pre-op meetings and told me to bring it with me when I checked in. It was labeled and was waiting fo...

Re: CPAP during MRI???

What about asking if you can have oxygen while you're in there? I'm betting that there is some sort of provision available for that since many really ill people are on constant oxygen. I made an interesting discovery this past week while in the hospital for hip replacements: without my cpap or oxyge...

Re: Article in WSJ: "How to Stop Hospitals From Killing Us"

Re the list thing: I've been in a local medical system for the past few years, and they ALWAYS have checklists. For a knee replacement a few years ago, I had to be able to both vocalize and point to the knee, telling them what was being done, before they would give me any drugs. During the breast ca...

Re: OT: Low Carb and Pain Reduction

I'm coveting my bread today and will start tomorrow. After one day of low carb I am back on track but it is hard to start. Carbs are so easy. I could live on toast. Boy, I sure hear you re living on toast, Elle! Been there, done that for years, can never do it again. Sigh. I was really a bread addi...
