great AHI but persistent snoring

Hi folks. I'm a long-time user of an ASV machine yet still have persistent snoring. The machine tells me my AHI is great (usually <1). I wear a chin-strap and nasal pillows. Cannot tolerate a full-face mask-- my facial structure seems to make them leak immediately if I shift at all. The machine (and...

it's time for a new ASV - advice?

Hi all! It's been a while since I posted. I have been happy with my Resmed S9 ASV, but it's been over five years, and I'm due for a new machine-- presumably/hopefully another ASV. I'm not up on what the latest & greatest are and am wondering if this group has opinions on models you like or ones to a...

Re: Yet another newbie looking for support.

5 is the threshold that doctors use to define disease... below 5 is considered normal, and above is mild/moderate/severe apnea, depending on how high you get. Some people seem to feel fine anywhere below 5; others seem to feel noticeably better if they can get it even lower. Also, keep in mind when ...

Re: Question about ASV... it may be in my future

And don't get too worried about having to adjust to a new machine... I am sure it isn't easy for everyone, but neither is it hard for everyone. In my case, it was a piece of cake. I had to add a chin strap, but other than that, no problem. My machine feels like this sensitive creature paying extreme...

who says xPAP can't be fun?

I made a discovery the other night. Reading in bed next to someone else who is asleep--or who wants to be--can be a challenge. As many know from childhood, a flashlight under the covers, or the modern version--an e-reader with light--works for a couple minutes, and then gets too stuffy. However, if ...

apnea-friendly parks and campgrounds

I thought I'd start a thread for people to share their experiences with parks and/or campgrounds that have facilities or staff that are supportive of people with apnea. I just went on my first camping trip since diagnosis, and we went to Nickerson State Park (on Cape Cod, MA). The campsites do not h...

Re: Finally I get my equipment....maybe?

Hey before I go the Doctor did say one thing that troubled me, he said that they had some difficulty getting my pressure stabilized as my brain wanted to stop breathing!!!! He said in 2/3 of the cases the brain gets over this and works with the equipment. I didn't get what this was called....sounde...

Re: camping?

The battery in question is the Respironics long-life rechargable battery pack (http://www.directhomemedical.com/long-life-cpap-vpap-battery-pack-resmed.html), which seems to be lead-acid. The specs mention 14.4 amp-hours. Not sure just how much my machine draws... I haven't found specs for it specif...

camping?

Hi all. I haven't been camping since diagnosis. I have a backup battery (made specifically for CPAP use) but am not sure for how many nights it might last, or if it could be recharged during the day from the car? And if the car has to be running to recharge it? Advice appreciated.

Re: Picking up my BiPAP tomorrow. Wahoo... hopefully!

If you are happy, then that's great. Personally, I was not satisfied with my initial CPAP results even though, *on average*, I had an AHI in the 3-4 range. This was because I could detect clearly cyclical patterns in my AHI, and while most days were below 5, every month there were a few predictable ...
