Travel with CPAP

Does anyone know of a company that will rent a machine for a week while I'm on vacation?

Thanks

Tried it a few nights-very comfortable but leaks alot. I would just wiggle my nose and it would leak. Try the Swift or Comfort L2

Asleep at the wheel

Few years back I drove a school bus for some extra money. I only did the afternoon route and would report to work arounf 2:30. The staff lounge would always have a few overweight drivers napping in their chairs and actually obstructing as they sat upright. Since I also worked as a sleep tech I menti...

Face Mask

Sounds as though you overtightened the mask if the nose was hurting. The trick is to make small adjustments while laying down in different positions and at the set pressure. Many people make the mistake of pulling the straps too tight. The FP431 which fits under the chin is a good mask, doesn't whis...

A Better Mask for Side Sleepers

Try the Vista for side sleeping. I've been using it for years and never have any marks on the face. The mask kinda sits across the nose without using the forehead supports. The sides are very padded and have fine adjustments available to get the best fit.

Good Luck

CPAP Education-Would A CPAP clinic work?

My wife and I are thinking about starting a CPAP clinic to help people improve their quality of life living and sleeping with CPAP equipment. We're both Respiratory therapists and I've been working in a sleep lab for 7 years. I also work for a small independent DME setting up CPAPs. The DME charges ...

Asleep at the Wheel

The state of New Jersey considers it a crime if you fall asleep and kill someone while driving. I believe it's called Megans Law, named after a teen who was killed by a person sleeping behind the wheel. While hooking up my patients in the lab where I work, many folks tell me that they've dosed off b...

Rem in the sleep lab

The good times in the sleeplab are when your patient is in REM, no mask leaks and hasn't moved since falling asleep. My patient arrived tonight with an RDI of 91, fitted him with an Ultra Mirage Large nasal mask and taught him to keep the mouth closed and tongue pushed forward and up. Keeping the to...

Arousals vs the Software

Very interesting reading all the posts about the data downloaded from the machines, pressure changes and folks always trying to get the low numbers. The software programs only detect snoring or flow limitations or a combination of the 2. Some people feel better sleeping on a lower pressure or the fi...

Drawing blood from the artery is really an art and having the right touch is so important. Practice makes perfect and the best at doing these are the Respiratory therapists on staff. The ABG can hurt near the wrist because the nerve is nearby. Some hospitals use lidocaine first with a smaller needle...

If you're waking up and can rule out other physical ailments such as back, knee or shoulder pain and really think that it's CPAP related then you should be retested in the sleep lab wearing your own mask. It could be a leg or arm movement, small mouth leak, it could only happen in one position that ...

You need to repeat a sleep study with your own mask in the sleep lab. Sounds as though you're having some type of arousals or awakenings that may or may not be CPAP related.

Contact your physician and get retested where you can be monitored all night.

Good Luck

Wear the Mask- all the Time

Great posts on the subject of complying all night with the CPAP machine. Everyone wrote about not cheating and feeling so much better when wearing the mask all night. Now a different twist! Comply with therapy and your blood pressure and heart are happy. Don't and you take the risk of a heart attack...
