Re: Dentist: I know you guys understand
Well, actually, for a while I thought it was anxiety too, just assumed it was. But I paid close attention during a really bad episode when they actually had my feet higher than my head. It was my tongue blocking my throat making breathing impossible. It was not anxiety. And I don't know why my denti...

Re: Dentist: I know you guys understand
You know, I thought about that. I guess technically this would be "dentist chair apnea." The same thing that makes my throat collapse and causes apnea incidents at night while sleeping also makes my throat close up when I am tipped back and told to hold my mouth open. My tongue obstructs my breathin...

Dentist: I know you guys understand
I know you guys will understand how awful going to the dentist can be if they ignore the fact that you have sleep apnea and you end up suffocating the entire time. GOOD NEWS! I talked to my dentist before he started and he was really nice and very accommodating and helpful. He tipped my chair back t...

Re: Traveling by car this summer-- question
Thanks again for all the replies! This has really put my mind to rest. I was quite worried. I will rest much easier knowing how sturdy CPAP machines are. Chicago Granny! Thanks for remembering me! I have stuck with it and after 2.5 years of real struggle, I finally adjusted to it and have been doing...

Re: Traveling by car this summer-- question
Thank you for all the replies! I checked the specs. Very good idea! Rather obvious too, don't know why I didn't think of it. it is safe from 41° to 95° I don't know how hot cars get though. I'm guessing the cabin could get over 95° when sitting in the sun for a long time. No idea about the trunk. I ...

Traveling by car this summer-- question
I'll be taking a road trip this summer and am concerned about my machine being in a hot car. Does anyone know how heat resistant CPAP machines are? Car travelers... what do you do? Keep the machine in the trunk, in the car seating area? Do you leave it in the car when grabbing a meal or making a pit...

Re: Still struggling with CPAP after 3.5 months
You've gotten a lot of good, sound advice about mask fit and selection. As for taking the mask off for the rest of the night... That's an annoying, pernicious problem. I understand it feeling hot and uncomfortable, I really get that. But sleeping without a mask is worse than no sleep at all. It's im...

Re: Finding the right Full Face Mask
I had the medium too big small too small problem with the Quattro (Made me crazy because it is such a godo mask) and tried Fisher and Paykel masks, which seem to be sized differently and found one that fit. Mask liner and an anti-leak strap were necessary to make it work. Thank god for Pad-a-Cheek!

Re: Joining the OSA/CPAP Family
If you can, get a DATA CAPABLE machine. I haven't been on the market for a machine for a while, so I don't know the exact model names that are data capable, but others on here can inform you or you could do some research on CPAP.com, which is a great company with an exhaustive inventory and also hap...

Re: More Tired Now than when I started CPAP a Year Ago.
Not only does Pugsy have that helpful tutorial, you can also post your charts and graphs, if you still can't figure it out on your own. KTeague is right in that getting effective treatment for OSA can eliminate that factor and allow you and your doctor figure what really is going on. But first you h...

Re: In Defense of the Full Facemask
Before we get sidetracked by a debate on which mask is best, (like Ford vs Chevy-- really ?) let's remember that all our faces are different--as well as our other parts. (thank goodness) Trial and error, along with experimentation, is often our only solution. Kudos to afibapnea for thinking outside...

Re: In Defense of the Full Facemask
I'd like to point out something about full face masks. It has been said, over and over, that full face masks don't deliver proper therapy, that somehow the basic design is a flawed one. Then all kinds of things are cited, except the results people regularly get in practice, not in theory. My numbers...

Re: Can't stay asleep!!! 2 - 3 hours and I wake up
This same thing happens to me too. I wake every 2-3 hours for no reason at all and just like you the pressure is always way up. Sometimes to 14. Mine is an auto cpap though so I start out at 4 Four is very low and fourteen is pretty high, a big enough change to wake someone up. If it is always way ...

Re: Can't stay asleep!!! 2 - 3 hours and I wake up
Sir Nodinoff has good advice... rule out as many things as possible. There are so many possible physical causes. As for your machine settings... some people find they do better with a tighter range or running in straight cpap mode with one pressure because the changes in pressure disturb their sleep...
