Re: Nurse adding water to humiderfier
I am a nurse and have worked in hospitals> 20 years. In those years never did we have a patient in on CPAP. It is also not taught in schools. So I can understand the nurses not knowing how the machines work. The RT should be teaching the staff when they have a patient on CPAP. I do know with the SAR...

Re: New and more sleep deprived than ever!
Welcome to the forum! I am about 10 months into CPAP. It took me about 3-4 months before I noticed an improvement. As you read thru the forum you will see that everyone has had a different experience. Don't forget that you have had 15 years of sleep depravation. Your body needs to catch up on it's s...

Re: Sleep Apnea, to treat or not to treat!!!
All I can say is that since starting CPAP almost a yr ago, blood pressure is down, no more snoring, energy level is up. Snoring is not normal. I agree that you are in denial. Lot easy to deny then take responsibility for your health

Re: OT Bariatric Surgery
I have been waiting for my referral to Humber Regional for evaluation for the bypass. It takes a yr to get in. Still waiting for the call ( been waiting since Aug) Apparently once the referral goes in it goes to the ministry for approval then you get your appointment. Ottawa is a 2yr wait. Lap band ...

Re: Some questions, not trying to be rude
No wonder you feel sleepy if your O2 satas drop into the 60s. It can take a few months to catch up on sleep. The fact that you don't have to nap as much shows things are working for you. Sometimes we get to hung up on numbers rather than how we feel.

Re: A little overwhelmed but desparate for sleep!
I would either turn off or decrease the time the RAMP is on. 45 min is too long, I started at 9cm which you can quickly get used to . A setting of 7 cm you should be fine with no ramp. It can take a while to regulate your sleep patterns

Re: HAS CPAP LOWERED YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE?
Before I started CPAP I was having a lot of problems dropping my blood pressure. My DOC had just added another med. Within a week of CPAP my blood pressure dropped and was able to stop one. Now my pressure sits 100-110/70. CPAP should drop your pressure as it decreases the work of your heart.

I use the S9 without heated hose. Keep the humidity set at 4 all yr round. Haven't had any problems without rainout or sinus infections.

Re: Nasal spray addiction with CPAP
Try using a saline nose spray. Speak with your MD as well as there may be something for you to use in the interm, If you cant do cold turkey you may just have to do a slow wean off which may be more tolerable for you. Good luck

Re: Is my OSA/sleep apnea diagnosis a scam?
generally wake up feeling tired, though I probably don’t get enough sleep (7 hours a night in general); I never jump out of bed feeling refreshed. I have a horrible memory and am very forgetful. My big issue is finding the right words. Despite being an english major it seems I can never remember the...

It took me about 3 months before I started to feel more energy. Still feel tired at times but make it thru the day without napping. Love my bed now.

Re: OT:I need advice on mattress toppers to prevent bedsores
Memory foam would be the best. I am a nurse. Stay away from egg crate toppers. They actually increase pressure points instead of relieving them. Air mattress works as well. As others have said turning and relieving pressure is what is needs. There are all types of therappeutic mattresses out their i...
