Re: Semi OT: Troll or Elderly?

Thanks for posting, madalot. It reminded me to maintain a charitable outlook.

It's just possible there could be a non-malignant explanation for the behavior of an apparent troll.

Re: Tongue on roof of mouth...please explain

M.D.Hosehead, are you suggesting what I think you're suggesting? It sounds as if you're speculating that people for whom this technique works might have LEARNED necessary muscle control----in much the same way that we learn not to wet the bed as children. I thought the latter was more a function of...

Re: Transient Global Amnesia and OSA, is there a relation?

TGA, as you read, usually happens only once in a lifetime But wouldn't it be more accurate to say: . . . etc. Regarding that sentence fragment, out of context, you may have an arguable point. In context, however, my response to the OP's question about a possible link between TGA and OSA was clearly...

Re: Transient Global Amnesia and OSA, is there a relation?

dori, during an episode of TGA, a person continues to behave normally, only he is not storing any memory of what he is doing or what is happening. This does not sound like the episode you described Mike having. TGA's don't seem related to blood pressure. With all Mike's medical problems, it's no won...

Re: OT: Why Do People Reject Science

Mars, I appreciate your links. In particular the Bloom-Weisberg article: http://edge.org/3rd_culture/bloom07/bloom07_index.html is so fitting in this thread, and leads to this mind-bending tautology: Can a scientific understanding of science rejection lead a science rejector to reject science reject...

Re: Transient Global Amnesia and OSA, is there a relation?

Rosacer, As you have read, TGA is still a complete mystery. The cause is completely unknown, so any relation to OSA is complete speculation. My guess is that it's unrelated, because, OSA is common and tends to worsen with age. TGA, as you read, usually happens only once in a lifetime, so that doesn'...

Re: The coming snot plagues of winter

This could be wrong, but I have been told that in Japan, it's the coughers and sneezers who wear masks so that they don't infect others. I hope that's true, because I like the idea.

In flu season:
Don't allow your hands near your face, unless they've just been washed.
Try to stay 8 feet away from a person who may be contagious.
If someone sneezes, run the other way.

Re: OUT OF OPTIONS-CAN ANYONE HELP???

mmkof5, If your problem is allergies, nasal steroid sprays like Nasonex should help, provided you use them correctly. Blow your nose first, then point the spray toward your eye on the same side as the nostril you are spraying. They don't work immediately, you have to persist for a few days. And you ...

Re: EYE BAGS--EEK!

I didn't mean to imply that the Nasal aire is the best choice. There are others that don't appear to squeeze the nose or require an elastic band around the face. Re: Oximetry reading

peterg, The sharp spikes up or down are usually artifacts due to movement. The stair-step decreases are typical for apneas. Try this on yourself. Put on the oximeter and hold your breath for 2 minutes while watching the numbers (it won't be easy). You will see the O2 sat. decrease in a stairstep fas...
