Chemistry is Fun
The baking soda is important to keep to keep the pH of the water basic. I noticed that when I was boiling my cushions, that there was a layer of soapy bubbles on the surface of the water. Those bubbles are either the result of residual detergent (baby shampoo) being washed off the cushion or from th...

Re: Boiling Stuff Part 2
I boiled the cushions from my backup and regular mask. As reported, they come out clean. I also boiled some other silicone parts from a free backup machine from a smoker. The stained parts are much less stained and smell less like smoke.
None of the parts were deformed in any way.

Re: Do Negative Ion Generators Help?
Alshain and Archangle are 100% correct. Do not hook an ion generator inline with your CPAP hose. Ozone (or any other charged molecule) is not good for your lungs or respiratory system. Ozone in particular is a very good oxidizer. It will kill your lungs - think the killer smog in London in the 50's....

Re: 0T: Why Is Congress A Millionaire"s Club ???
While I am not an American, I would venture to guess that a millionaire would have the best ability to fund or fundraise enough $$$$$$ to actually win an election.
For a regular person, the amount of $$$$$ money required to win a campaign would be entirely out of reach.

Re: cpap in hot car? is this ok?
Most electronic components are temperature rated to ~80'C and usually experience far hotter temperatures during the assembly of the electronic boards The fly in the ointment would be LCD screens. They can be extremely temperature sensitive. With that being said, I would not hesitate to temporarily p...

Re: What's the longest anyone has had to sleep in another room?
I have been sleeping in anothe room for 4 or 5 years on and off. My wife is not an overly great bed partner as she rolls around all night.
Someday, I hope to have 2 smaller twin beds in the room, one for both of us.

Re: Those who have overcome aerophagia...how did you do it?
Time...I had it for about 2 weeks. It was terrible. I felt absolutely full for 4 hours after waking. I had air leaking our both directions as well. It eventually went away. It does come back from time to time though. It really sucks.

The brandname of the typical TMJ mouthguard is NTI. The website is : http://www.headacheprevention.com/ I chose my dentist because he was the only provider within 300 miles that can fit such a mouthguard. They do work and are comfortable to wear. I grind my teeth quite severely at night and they las...

Re: OT: Asked if I had a gun in my home during physical.
Try living in Canada! We have a mandatory long gun registry and mandatory possession/acqusistion licenses. You have to renew your possession/acquisition license periodically, if you report that you have been treated for depression the government revokes your license and you are immediately flagged a...

Re: Is CPAP a risk for upper resp "infections"
I'm not sure I've had fewer infections, but the severity and longevity of the two infections I've had have been lessened significantly. I had the flu in Jaunary. I was sick for 3 days. My wife had the same flu and she was sick for well over a week. I personally attribute it to breathing humidified a...

Re: CPAP pressure
You can double check using a pail of water at least 12" deep.
1. Fill Pail to about 3/4 full.
2. Remove hose from mask.
3. Start CPAP
3. Dip hose in pail until the CPAP just stops bubblig.
4. Measure the distance the hose was immersed in the water - It should be close to 13 cm.
Good Luck!

Re: Is my OSA/sleep apnea diagnosis a scam?
I sincerely believe if I had been aggressively treated immediately after my original diagnosis for OSA which happened in Fall 2000, I could have salvaged most of my thirties. Instead, I lost the prime of my life due to untreated OSA. Does that answer your question? Also, I believe Id probably be in...

Resmed and Patient Health
In another thread, someone posted a link to Resmed's product list in .pdf http://www.resmed.com/us/documents/product-list-usa.pdf I read through the sections on xPAP machines starting around pg 28. The interesting thing that I noticed was that Resmed did not mention the Efficacy Data that any of the...

Re: Does a hose cozy really prevent rainout?
I made my own cozy out of "Saskatchewan Roughriders" green polar fleece that I found as a remnant. I use big elastic bands to hold both ends. My blower is way below my head and I have my humidifier quite high. No rain out since I made the cover.
