Re: Can I collect disability?

quote]I hope you are kidding. Many UPPP do not have the greatest results, even if they work for some people. I would carefully research any surgery and surgeon you are contemplating.[/quote] For me CPAP alone was never going to work. I wish it did. I used it every night for a few years, sleeping a f...

Re: Can I collect disability?

Paul, If your AHI is low but are still tired/zombied out it's probably indication that you are not getting REM or restorative sleep. Could be that your brain has a fast trigger and wakes you or at least bumps you into shallower sleep level at first sign of breathing problem. This was my problem and ...

Re: CPAP is helping a *little* bit, but...

Since you had the surgery are you sure you need to use CPAP? Did you have a follow up sleep study? I had hyoid advancement and UPPP in Oct 2010. I continued to use CPAP for a few weeks after the surgery as I healed. I also took some powerful pain meds which of course dulled my central nervous system...

Re: Foggy brain, shortness of breath...

In the sleep study did they report the apnea was worse when sleeping on your back? For now I would suggest sleeping on side or stomach only. I wear a fanny pack with softballs on my lower back to keep from back sleeping. Probably your combination of tonsiles + tongue falling into the airway during R...

Re: tummy sleeping has worked for me!

Hi Elena, This is wonderful news to hear! You helped me a lot in your postings; along with the laughing. I found I had many similarities to what you were experiencing with CPAP. You gave it your all but it was never going to work for you. For some (like me), the process of using CPAP keeps us from g...

Re: Surgery Pros and Cons

I have had surgery(s) and when I have more time I will post full details. My last surgery was about 6 months ago --- Hyoid Advancement, and UPPP. A few weeks ago I got the results of my post surgery sleep study --- AHI = 7. Yeah I know, not under 5. But rarely did I get < 10 with CPAP or my VPAP. My...

Post Traumatic Stress from Apnea

In October 2010 I had sucessful surgery for apnea. The procedure was UPPP in combination with hyoid advancement. Since the surgery I have periodically monitored oxygen levels using an oximeter. Always my O2 levels are 94% or greater. My problem is that I continue to wake up at least once or more tim...
