Re: obtaining a CPAP machine without a prescription

I think I am missing something here. First Brian asks about purchasing a machine without a script, then he mentions asking his doc for a second script. Why do that? If you have one script that is all you need. Buy from CPAP.com. The same script is good again.

Re: newbie ? re brand names

Do not call your Dr office to HEAR what is on your prescription. Go there and get the original. Never let the Doc fax to the DME. They lie occasionally, and you have a right to take that prescription (and the sleep study) and go to whatever DME you wish, brick and mortor or online.

Re: Itchy nose with CPAP

My nose also itches with a ff mask. I doubt in my case that there is any cause other than that I can't scratch it. Similar to why everything itches when you are in an MRI tube. You can't move so your mind plays tricks on you. Consider not giving up on the nasal pillows. I too thought I was a terribl...

Re: Some beginner questions...

I think everyonoe is different on how fast cpap helps. I took to it very well and very quickly but I was miserable before so any improvement was amazing.

On weight loss. I haven't noticed any in myself but others may be different.

Re: Poll: Age/Cpap Users

DoriC,

How lucky your husband is to have you who stuck with him during his untreated apnea time rather than my husband who ditched me for many of the reasons you mention the CPAP helping your husband with.

Re: Insurance Coverage

What people need to remember is that there are many versions of insurance coverage even within the major insurance companies. A lot of it depends on what your group plan is designed to cover. Many times you don't have a choice about what level of coverage is offered if you have group coverage throug...

Re: Sinus troubles

You got my attention. My bottom line answer is humidity too low. I just switched from my Auto M series to my tank apap and forgot to put on the humidifier Thurs night. I tend to do this once or twice a year. The M series humidifier goes on by itself, the tank you have to push the button. I had to le...

Re: Problems getting APAP machine

I am with the group that says don't give up. It took me multiple calls to Apria on my first machine (APAP). Talked to different people and insisted that I get the one I wanted (and for which my prescription was written). I was ready to order online, but didn't need to as it was cheaper with my insur...

Re: Cleaning tips? Drying tips?

I wash almost nothing. I do my nasal pillow (swift) once in a while as it seals better when clean. For that I use plain old hand soap with whatever in it and I am on the first two pillows for over 2 years.

Other than that in my opinion and the opinion of many here, nothing else requires cleaning.

Re: Newbie Question - Obstacles due to Prescription

One more thought. If you do get your apap via cpap.com without insurance or you try to get reimbursed and can't, if your insurance covers almost all, consider getting insurance to provide you with a good data-capable machine you can use for backup or travel. Only do this if you have a really low or ...

Re: Apria

I have had both good and bad experiences with Apria. I am starting to believe that it is mostly my insurance(s) and my experience with dealing with them also plays a factor. My first experience was a nightmare. Wanted an Auto, insurance didn't want to pay for one (even though the reimbursement code ...

Re: Habitual snoring may be behind womens daytime fatigue

Why just study women??? Wouldn't you think that this would apply to all human beings? I am living proof that this article is accurate. My apneas are minor compared to my waking myself up CONSTANTLY by snoring. When I wake up I could remember hearing myself in my pre-CPAP days. I urge anyone who snor...

I will never have another sleep study if I can help it. Waste of money. Get an apap.

Re: Newbie observations and questions

While I didn't have time to completely read everyone who posted before me this threat compelled me to respond to the orignial post. YOU have to control your own destiny. DO NOT let your doc fax your prescription and sleep studies to the vendor of HIS choice. Get it yourself. Then shop around and dec...
