Re: OT -lactose intolerance

I am severely lactose intolerant, and have been for decades. Not all cheeses are lactose free. Some say it on the package (e.g., Cracker Barrel's sharp cheddar says it), some aged cheeses have less lactose, and yogurt with active cultures and yogurt cheese is virtually lactose free. The pills work q...

Re: Untreated sleep apnea and insanity?

OSA/sleep deprivation can make a co-existing mental illness worse. There are some reports in the literature of psychosis resolving with treatment of OSA, suggesting that, in those cases, the psychosis was caused by the OSA. Probably some cases of OSA develop in people with psychotic disorders when t...

Re: Helping my 4 year old

He is so restless, though. Yelling out, kicking me In his sleep...he is hot. He is cold. He needs a drink. This is all in one night. And it is usually every night. That's a lot of sleep interruptions. I think I am going to call and ask about PLMS and see if we can get blood work before the visit so...

Re: Is dreaming a reliable gauge of sleep quality?

I think it's individual. For me, the more vivid my dreams, and the more I remember them, the worse my sleep is. Untreated, I feel like I've been up all night watching movies.

Re: Helping my 4 year old

Got a full 8 hours before he ripped it off tonight, but that was with 2 wake ups. Wish I knew why this kid is still waking up so much? Two wake ups seems pretty normal to me... Forgive me, but this information contains jargon I am unfamiliar with. Muffy, can't give the tired mothers a break and act...

Re: Helping my 4 year old

He asks me every morning if he wore it all night. He has no memory of taking it off. That is why I feel badly about the rewards. I feel it isn't for lack of effort on his part, you know what I mean? I hear you. I was worried about medicating his ADHD symptoms with a stimulant if he can't sleep as i...

Re: Helping my 4 year old

I was wondering about PLMS, but didn't want to derail the conversation. They are common in ADHD, BTW. Still, should be worked up with a complete iron panel (not just ferritin), folate, magnesium, B12. Was all that done? Melatonin is short-acting, so I wouldn't expect him to not wake up because of it...

Re: Helping my 4 year old

He has become very hyper in the last year and has a hard time settling. He has always fought sleep since infancy. Consequently, he needs and adheres to a strict bedtime routine but he just does not fall asleep until 9pm no matter what time I get him in bed. I think you mentioned that he may have AD...

Re: Helping my 4 year old

when considering Palate expanders, be sure to ask about the Damon System for doing that http://www.bernsteinbraces.com/orthodontics/about-braces/self-ligating (I am not affiliated in any way with this system, just very pleased about my daughter's results). Many orthodontists use the system with the...

Re: Helping my 4 year old

I wonder if 5cm feels stifling/suffocating to him at times, and that's why he's ripping the mask off... Course you'll need to discuss that with the doctor. I am not sure that you can't use an incentive program for him to keep it on all night. Yes, it may be that he's out of it or having some kind of...

Re: Happy Chanukah

Um, Golden brand latkes?! Me too! We made latkes a few times ourselves, and it was such a greasy mess on the stove, backsplash, etc. that I can't bring myself to do it again. The kids like the store bought ones, and I only have a token latke or two myself. I save my carb indulgences for sweets, not ...

Re: Interesting Study on an Israeli Oral Mask

I thought it said there was no need to exceed a pressure of 6 in the subjects they studied. I'll have to read it again. I remember thinking, "How can this be? And what does this mean for converting lab titration prescriptions to this...?"

Re: Help for my son

I really, really would like to avoid taking him back to the lab. I'm not crazy about giving him any meds to make him sleep. He already takes meds for his ocd and anxiety and I worry about adding something new to the mix. OK, I hear you about the lab. I thought I'd read that there's a higher inciden...
