Re: Dental Care Sleep Apnea Solution

Wow! Great info in this thread, folks! Lets remember that sleep medicine is in its infancy. CPAP has only been around about 30 years. We are only going to see improvements and changes and alternatives if folks like us are willing to be guinea pigs. I tried the TAP and it was just too much for my ti...

Re: In the family?

wow it is amazing that now you know the signs and symptoms and you talk to family and friends you can almost diagnose it your self. I have been on my sister for 8 months to get a sleep study and she was positive she did not need one. Came up with every excuse in the world. BUT her doctor says sleep ...

In the family?

My mom, aunt and uncle have sleep apnea. My sister from Alaska is coming home to visit and I am doing a sleep study on her. Just curious how many of you have other family members with OSA? I see quite a few patients that lists on their paperwork that they have family with it as well. Thanks

Re: Dental Care Sleep Apnea Solution

I actually have a patient right now that had a sleep study 7 years ago, but has had a hard time using her CPAP. I have a feeling she will not fall under the Mild category, but if she does, she already has the appointment for the dental device. I am very eager to get some patients in here on the devi...

Re: Dual Tests

very true slinky! I do feel bad when I wake people up at 630 am. My last pt. was very upset and asked why she couldnt sleep till 10. I very professionally explained that I get to work at 6pm to prepare the wires, do paperwork, make sure the room is ready, etc. and after the pt. leaves I have another...

Re: Dual Tests

another problem we run into is when we wake you up at say 2 am, try the different masks on, let you get used to it, then strap it on..your WIDE awake. I lose alot of patients who want to just go home now that they are awake. So Its a hard call on these split nights. But yes someone should have expla...

Re: Dual Tests

I guess these responses tell me pretty much what I assumed and that is they are trying to get my insurance company to pay for two sleep studies as opposed to one. Which will affect my rates and also inconveniences me by having to go back in and get hooked like a lab rat with wires. This may be the ...

Re: Dental Care Sleep Apnea Solution

I have a local dentist here who is very big on OSA. She has commercials of people wearing CPAP and tearing them off, and talking about the dental device. I understand the American Academy of Sleep Medicine states the oral MAY work for mild-moderate apnea. My only problems is this- I have had patient...

Re: Wow, Crazy Polysom Results, Folks!

Um. I looked over your results and am as confused as you are. If I read it correctly you had 4 events the entire night? I still dont understand why there is such a high split in the Bi-level settings? Now I usually give some credit to the sleep tech, if you saw some of my reports at first you would ...

Re: Sleep studies, how often?

Our sleep lab recommends a new tudy if you start to feel fatigue again, start snoring, morning headaches, any of the things that brought you in the first time. I do not "make" y patients sleep on there back. I for one can not sleep on my back, so I don't expect anyone else too. Yes I really like to ...

Re: Wow, Crazy Polysom Results, Folks!

alpha intrusion I believe you explained very well! When we do the pre test and say close your eyes we look for the alpha waves. What sucks is when your asleep and the alpha intrusion appears. You have to look really hard at other sleep stage give aways ( such as sleep spindles in stage 2). It is usu...

Re: Wow, Crazy Polysom Results, Folks!

Well as a sleep tech I can not for the life of me understand why he did not raise the EPAP? There should always ( in most cases) be a 4 split between IPAP and EPAP. Alpha intrusion is commonly seen with pain, I do not however believe it is associated with the spontaneous arousals. This study does se...

Re: Paying it forward.... your story

I have 2 purposes for visiting this forum. The first is to help make me a better sleep tech. I read every horror story that is told on here about a bad sleep study, and I look at at my own lab, and myself. Am I doing these things? Can I improve on educating my patients? Of course I can, and I take t...

Re: Ridiculous quotes and deeds by doctors and DMEs

Ok I have to admit when I first saw this post I was kinda mad. I thought ok, let me post some of the stupid things patients say, like " can you really see my dreams" " do you sleep next to me all night" but after reading the posts,, they are damn funny!!! I laughed out loud on a couple of them!!!
