Re: On creating a new dominant story

I only started a couple of months ago, but I have found that I actually like the sensation of fresh air coming at me all night. I take pleasure in the little rituals of filling up the humidifier chamber, starting up the warmer, assembling the mask every night. I'm a gadget-geek and the APAP machine ...

Re: Sleep related apps for your iPhone

I've been using CPAP aide for the iPhone pretty much since I started 2 months ago... it is a nice app, though the interface is a bit awkward (having to hit Set, then Save, then Done to update a schedule item). It's great for tracking maintenance and replacement schedules.

Re: ResMed Mirage Activa LT -vs- Mirage SoftGel Result

However, the pressure on my sinuses causes them to constrict, so last night, I had trouble breathing as soon as I would put the mask on. This sounds like what I experienced as feeling like I couldn't breathe right. I was also worried that with the tighter straps, I'd get marks on my nose like I did...

Re: Question for you??

His reasoning was that the autopap should take care of the pressure settings automatically. This is true, but when the pressure starts so low, the machine has a long way to go to get to the right titration level. It only adjusts in small increments at a time until it successfully stops all events. ...

Re: Activa LT cushion, how long before u lose seal, change it?

I wash my Activa LT cushion every morning with Target-brand soft soap--I think it is important to get the face oil off the mask to extend its longevity, and daily is what my DME recommended. They said to use a mild soap and never Dawn, since that may break down the cushion faster. I also use Sea Bre...

Re: Question for you??

He did NOT have a titration study because the dr. he went thru did not believe in them. I'd be curious about the doctor's explanation of this... does he intend to review the data from the machine to adjust the titration range after a month or so? If so, that may be a legitimate philosophy (save the...

Re: ResMed Mirage Activa LT -vs- Mirage SoftGel Result

I had exactly the same experience... I got the Activa LT from my DME and found it to work well, but they mentioned that the new SoftGel cushion was coming soon and would be compatible with the mask (they didn't have it yet, but it was cheap enough on cpap.com that I ordered it myself sans insurance)...

Re: Which Full-face masks are favored?

I tried the Forma and FullLife--I found the Forma very uncomfortable and gave me headaches (probably due to having it so tight to stop leaks). The FullLife was much more comfortable, but had a leak rate so high that my doctor's office told me it was probably ineffective (even though I didn't feel it...

Re: Where do I sell a cpap? Ebay? Is it legal??

Selling on cpapauction.com is perfectly legal because they verify that bidders have a prescription... ebay does not have a system to verify prescriptions, so they don't allow the items to be sold. I don't know about the legality of selling person-to-person without verifying prescription, so if you w...

Re: AHI reading and leakage

A large leak rate will render the AHI that the machine reports useless... I just learned this myself from a sleep technician at my doctor's office.

Re: Leak effects on therapy

An update on my experience with the FullLife... I met with my doctor's office "Sleep Educator" yesterday, who read the data from my machine and said she has not often seen such huge leaks--there were days where the machine could not auto-titrate (I'm on APAP) due to the leak level. She said the AHI ...

Re: Leak effects on therapy

Thanks for the feedback--I'll contact my DME about the leak message I've been seeing. I expect they will be able to read the data from the machine. The display on the machine does not show me AHI or anything other than hours used and session counts. I'll also ask them about the software--I wonder if...

Leak effects on therapy

I just started APAP 2 weeks ago, the first week with the Forma full face mask. That mask was very uncomfortable and I quickly developed sores on my forehead and nose bridge. I would wake up with headaches from the mask and felt like it was pinching my face. Then, I found out about the Respironics Fu...
