Re: ProVent disposable nose valves

It's not a new product... it's been posted about many times. If you add up the cost of using these for a while, it will become clear that getting a durable machine is a whole lot cheaper in the long run.

Re: Is my OSA/sleep apnea diagnosis a scam?

C-PAP MACHINES ARE GENERALLY A SCAM, WITH THE PHYSICIAN PRESCRIBING THE MACHINES GETTING BIG KICKBACKS. THE PHYSICIANS ARE REALLY THE ONLY ONES GETTING ANY REAL BENENFITS FROM THE MACHINES. THERE IS AN INVESTIGATION ONGONG BY THE AMA AND CONGRESSIONAL COMMITTEE CONCERNING THIS SCAM. Edit: RDawkinsP...

Re: Nostrils sore

Do you ever use a nasal (non-pillow) mask like the Activa? It might be good to give your nostrils a break for a while, and a nasal mask allows you to avoid the issues with full face masks.

Re: S9 Auto set with a AHI 0.0 reading.

EPAP only applies to bilevel machines (Reamed VPAP). It is certainly possible to get 0 AHI... I do once or twice every few weeks. I'd only be concerned about the data if it continues more than a week... that happened to me once and unplugging put everything back to normal.

Re: No responses

Katie's post is from Friday, not today... so there has been a lot longer to accumulate posts.

Why do you say "No responses" when you have had a couple of thoughtful responses and you haven't taken the time to respond to the questions posed to help you better?

Re: Men - Apnea treatment and testosterone levels

I have talked to my doctor treating me for Low T about the relationship between testosterone and apnea... it is a complex relationship and everyone will react differently, but his take was that treating low T can make apnea worse (like the Web MD article says). The answer of course is "it depends".....

Re: Nasal Mask Questions

I found that I am fine without a nasal mask without a chinstrap or taping. However, I would wake up every couple of nights with a very, very dry mouth... so, was obviously sometimes leaking from my mouth. It wasn't a large enough leak to be a problem for treatment according to the software, but was ...

Re: Let's hear from BEARD full face mask wearers...

I'm afraid I have had not much luck with full face masks and a beard--I keep my beard pretty trim, but just can't get a good seal. The best one I've tried is the ComfortGel FFM, but I need to wear it pretty tight, so I only do so when I'm congested and can't use my Activa LT.

Re: Pressure seems too high after moving

Have you changed your mask cushion? Make sure it is fully seated properly in the frame? I agree this sounds like you are experiencing leak... which will make it feel like more air coming at you since the machine is trying to compensate for leak. That would also account for the increased venting and ...

Re: I've been wearing the wrong size Activa Lt

Often when I hear people having leak issues with the ActivaLT, I think they must have the wrong size... mine fits just outside the nares of my nose and it's perfect--my leak is 0 most of the time. I'm glad you found this out... it really is a great mask and so much lighter than others I have tried.

Re: Thumbs up on the PAPcap

You put the pap cap on over your mask straps? I put the pap cap on first and the mask goes over it... that could help prevent the strap marks.

Re: Very Dry Mouth (Zero Leaks)

Have you tried increasing your humidifier setting? It doesn't sound like you are mouth-breathing if you have no leaks, but air could still be pushing into your mouth from your nose-breathing. Have you been taking decongestants? I find when I take things with pseudo ephedrine in them, I get a dry mou...

Re: help with soft gel mask.

I'm still not sure if I know what you mean, but it is normal for the mask to inflate and therefore push against where it contacts your face. That is really how the mask is designed... to inflate and create the seal by the pressure itself, as opposed to the gel type masks that are designed to be full...

Re: help with soft gel mask.

Re: EPR switch from 3 to "off"-my results

I'm one of the people that does better without EPR, but if you have good results with it on then you should keep using it. I think there are a sub-set of us that are prone to apneas on exhale, so the drop in pressure from EPR exacerbates that. I've mentioned this a few times in different threads as ...
