Re: Has anbdoy EVER have a problem with voltage compatility?

Yes, I have. Back in the 1990s era before manufacturers adopted the universal power supplies . My first machine was a "HEALTHDYNE" CPAP that only accepted 110-120 V, and I distinctly recall traveling to Europe and needing to carry a heavy, bulky transformer along to feed my machine. When the univers...

Re: Who has the most number of hours on their machine?

I*m no longer using it,. but my antique HEALTHDYNE has ~35,700 hours and still works fine. It has no run-time meter, but I used it faithfully for over 14 yrs. before I retired it for a SULLIVAN which died after~ 15,000. hours.

Re: Do you use ramp?

NO. I started using CPAP before ramp was generally available (1987)) and did initially find exhaling against 10 cm annoying, but by the time 10 years later when I got a machine with ramp I had no desire to even try it. Now I have tried it once, and felt suffocated with just 4 cm pressure. Just incid...

Re: Dreamstation hose has gotten loose

I use simple automotive hose clamps. All car parts shops stock them in a correct size, and they will last "forever". And they are quite inexpensive.

Re: machine life vs pressure

I am a long-time patient, (~35 Years) and have had only 1 machine actually die during use. It had about 15,000 hours of service when the blower completely died.

Re: hard small bump on nose

I have used XPAP machines for about 33 years and had several varieties of nasal masks (All nasal cushion type) and have never had any "bumps" or lesions. For what it's worth, I have used the ResMed Activa mask for the last 14 years with good results. But I do accept the fact that some people may hav...

Re: How can I tell when my humidifer-tank has reached EOL

I have used CPAP for many years, and as yet have never had a water tank failure. I realize that occasionally a tank does develop leaks around the heater plate boundary, BUT it's never happened to me (yet). I do think that it is prudent to keep a spare on hand since breakage, and/or leaks can occur. ...

Re: Sleeping pills

I have found that each doctor has his own opinions regarding sleeping pills. The sleep medicine doctor who ordered my latest test last month gave me my own option whether to take Ambien ( And I did choose to take a low dose Ambien) . And my internist (Who avoids treating apnea ) routinely writes ref...

Re: Shingles!!! Get vaccinated before it is too late!

I can certainly testify that shingles is no fun. I developed an attack perhaps 30 or more years ago that was initially difficult to get diagnosed, but finally the eruptions started and I was treated with some sort of anti viral agent. Treatment helped my physical pain, but I had several weeks of eru...

Re: How long after starting therapy should one expect result

My personal experience with starting CPAP back in the "dark ages" of treatment in 1987 was an immediate improvement-and that was with a rather primitive Healthdyne CPAP with absolutely no data output whatever, not even a runtime meter. But I realize that people are all different, and perhaps my cond...

Re: Sewing hose covers, first attempt.

I have used commercial hose covers for years (nylon sleeve filled with fiber-fill insulation) and I snug both ends onto the hose boot with ordinary rubber bands after the hose is inserted. When a band breaks, I just put on another one. However a band usually lasts several months.

Re: Enlarged turbinates

I had turbinate reduction with a local ENT quite a number of years ago. It was an in-office procedure and I think I had some sort of medication to calm me, but I was not anesthesized, and I drove myself home maybe an hour later. It really wasn't bad at all.

I adjust and experiment with both pressures, BiLevel settings. My pulmonologist sorta disapproves, but reluctantly accepts my actions

Re: What Triggered Your Need for CPAP?

I fell asleep at inappropriate times, even when driving. I was notorious for snoring, and my wife noticed that I often stopped breathing while asleep. By the end of my workday I was exhausted and often took a nap as soon as I reached home. By sheer chance I happened to see a TV feature made at Stanf...

Re: OT -- does anyone know anything about heart attacks?

Bless you, I regret that you have had to experience this. I have experienced a pacemaker implant for AFIB, though I've never (YET) had a heart attack as such. My own event w caught me by total surprise. Any upset to our heart is scary. I shall pray that you do well, and I second the related comments...
