Re: PROPER CLEANING, Equipment Life Span

I would not use anti-bacterial liquid soap on the soft parts of CPAP equipment as it may cause deterioration. There is no reason to wash CPAP hoses (unless the outside gets gets dirty). Unless you are sharing equipment with someone else or you buy used equipment, there really isn't any reason at all...

Re: Smoking

I don't think that smoking makes much of a difference when using CPAP. I smoked for about years while using CPAP and stopped smoking about 7 years ago.

Re: TSA experience December 2010

There are TSA approved luggage locks that the TSA has 'master' keys for that they will use if they need to open the bag. The TSA will cut off non-TSA approved locks (and/or possibly damage the bag) if they want to open a locked bag.

Re: pink slime in tank?

Be careful when using bleach as chlorine bleach can etch aluminum, and many heated humidifier chambers have aluminum plates.

Re: Power went out - chuckling about it now

A backup battery is a very nice thing to have in the case of a power outage. I have two batteries; a li-ion battery that lasts almost three nights that I carry when I travel, and a large AGM deep cycle battery that lasts for about a week. I can also charge my cell phones and Kindle from the batteries.

Re: pink slime in tank?

If I used a humidier, I wouldn't have a problem using that water chamber after cleaning it as you have. I would let it dry out completely and then clean it again with 50-50 white vinegar solution before using it. It there is any slime still hanging out, you could try to remove it by putting some wat...

Re: Thoughts on a good lubricant?

The non-water based "Gun Oil" is a good silicone based lubricant.

Re: Thoughts on a good lubricant?

I have a caulking tube of Xerox silicone grease that I rescued from the trash when a former employer changed brand of copier (the tube was still sealed). When I was in the Air Force, we went through dozens of tubes of Dow Corning silicone grease every month; we used it for greasing everything. We al...

Re: Thoughts on a good lubricant?

Silicone grease is commonly used as a lubricant with breathing apparatus; it doesn't aerosolize.

Re: Thoughts on a good lubricant?

I would use a very light touch of plain silicone grease (not heat sink compound). You can get small packets of plain silicone grease in many stores that sell computer parts. I only use WD-40 as a penetrating oil; I saw how badly it gummed up the actions in a few rifles that somebody (not me) lubrica...

Re: OT Bed bug phobia

I don't give bed bugs any thought at all while traveling or at home. Worrying about it does no good, and other than total isolation, I don't think that there are any effective or reasonable ways to avoid them. Even total isolation may not be effective in preventing bed bug infestation.

Re: I'm on a boat!

You can charge both batteries from the engine's alternator at the same time while keeping the starting battery electrically separate from the house battery using a "dual battery isolator". Dual battery isolators are frequently used on RVs to keep the two battery systems isolated while still being ab...

Re: RT suggested a Breathing Pattern

From both my yoga and my Air Force physiological training; it is better to breath from your belly, not from your chest. When you are breathing, your stomach should be moving, not your chest. Also, if you concentrate on feeling your breathing, you may fall asleep easier (it is essentially the same as...
