A computer type UPS is fine for powering a CPAP machine, although the battery won't last very long, it would be fine for power hits and short outages. I wouldn't even hazard a nap of any sort without CPAP; even if it were possible for me to nap without events, I would feel naked without my mask. I don't think that I could even sleep without air blowing on my face.

I use Linux both at home and on my work desktop workstation. I use my work Windows laptop to run my CPAP software -- and that is about all that it is used for.
