Re: Position of machine - high or low - does it matter?
I don't use a humidifier; I just have to make sure that the machine won't fall on my head if if falls.

Re: Used CPAP and hygiene
People buy used CPAP machines all of the time. As long as they work properly, the only real hygiene problem with a used CPAP involves odors, most notably tobacco smoke in the machine - you are unlikely to be able to get cigarette smoke smell out of a CPAP machine. Another potential odor problem is f...

Re: Can you sleep thru thunder and lightening?
Our entire house, including two cats, usually sleep just fine through storms. We will wake up if there is a nearby lightning strike that creates a very loud thunderclap -- and then the cats race to the window sills and watch the storm. I have a CPAP battery, so I don't really care if the power goes ...

Re: Comfort gel mask smell?
When you get a new mask, hose, or filters it is a good idea to open the bag and allow them to air out to get rid of any odors. After airing them out, they should be stored in something that is not air tight until you use them. For filters or masks, you could just cut some holes in the plastic bags t...

Re: Electric service discount for medical equipment
The cost of operating a CPAP is negligible; I would be embarrassed to claim a power company discount for a CPAP. There are medical devices that are expensive to operate -- and a CPAP is not one of them. I also wouldn't feel right trying to get "priority restoration" for CPAP, a battery works a whole...

Re: Report: Elderly Women Have Different Sleep Apnea Symptoms
I work for an assisted living company, and somebody using the term "old women" would be told that it is not an appropriate term -- and would probably be reprimanded.

Re: Safe during a thunderstorm?
A typical UPS will power a CPAP for about a half hour or maybe up to an hour -- and most UPSs have alarms that will wake you up when the power goes out. A deep cell battery will silently power a CPAP for many hours or even a few days

Re: Safe during a thunderstorm?
It is weird to wake up at night for a bathroom run, wondering why it is so dark. Then, after waking up a bit more, realizing that the power went out and that the CPAP is running from its battery.

Re: Safe during a thunderstorm?
I feel perfectly safe using my CPAP during a lightning storm.
In order to be totally safe from a lightning strike on the power line, you could totally isolate your CPAP from the power line, by unplugging it and operating it from a battery.

CPAP machines are double insulated and do not need three prong outlets.

Re: use of battery pack
I have a Battery Geek CPAP battery and they recommend using an inverter and the regular AC powered charger when charging the battery from 12 volts. Although it is a bit inefficient (the inverter will be about 90% efficient and the battery charger I would guess to be about 90-95% efficient), it is th...

Re: Alert: Warning on Dangerous Mineral Supplement
Wow, that is pretty amazing. Clorox or Domestos would do the same thing, and it would be much cheaper. Clorox is about $2 per gallon, while this "supplement" is £33 for 100ml ($15.40 per US fluid ounce).

Re: Rx Bed?
You might want to contact the administrator of your account, they are the "gatekeepers" and they will tell you if they will give you grief or not. In many ways, FSA administrators are like insurance companies, and in many cases, they are insurance companies. I am sure that there wouldn't be any prob...

Re: Ahhhhh! No power cord!
It is a good idea to also keep a hose in your case -- they are cheap. I also keep a 12 foot light weight extension cord and a 3-way outlet adapter in my case.
