Re: I'm getting the hang of this!!

My own experience, after a whole two weeks of experimentation ( ), is that the optimum nose cushion size does not seem to correlate with schnaz size. Noone would ever accuse me of having a petite proboscis, and I started with a medium per the DME. It was not so bad but hurting me a bit so I went wit...

Re: She hates fans

The "faceshield", lol. If I suggested that, I know who would be sleeping in the guest bedroom .....

OK so why would a person refuse a pair of nice soft earplugs?

Re: She hates fans

Same problem for me last night, for the first time. She muttered something about maybe going to the front bedroom as she turned over, then did get back to sleep (ask me how I know ...). I turned over too of course but the damage was done. I have a small headrest thingy ready to dploy tonight, looks ...

Re: Greatful Newbie

Like rooster said. I'm a noob and have been transcribing data daily off the LCD screen (AHI, leak, 90pc pressure, blower hours) and it's been very helpful already (2 weeks into therapy) but I eagerly await the ordered software so that I can print out the full daily reports (and the summary). Knowled...

Re: Apnea destroyed my career

Very nice. Brownlee is quite brilliant certainly; I'm embarassed to say I'm way out of touch with metabolism these days (used to be what I did). I'll read the review, get educated, and maybe give it a whirl. The end state is certainly very similar but the pathophysiology .... ? My axonal transport i...

Re: Apnea destroyed my career

My last post sounds too patronising on re-reading, not intended. SA can be just brutal, we all sympathise with what it's done to you but there's no reason to give up hope. In its last stage (just before my actual diagnosis), my chronically exhausted and sometimes rather confused mental state reminde...

Re: Boy does my hair look stupid.

I have found that a 12-week course of combo chemotherapy (two vincas, VP-16, dox, cyclophosphamide, bleo ...) is an excellent remedy for thinning hair. The whole lot falls out, but then it grows back again much thicker.

Whether this would be a treatment for xPAP hair, I dunno. Any takers?

Re: POLL: What got you into xPAP therapy ?

My GI doc recommended it, but I was in complete denial and would never have done the overnight evaluation if FAA Medical in Oklahoma didn't insist, or they wouldn't let me fly a light airplane ever again. So I wanted to select the last option as well as the other one.

Re: Boy does my hair look stupid.

lol ..... Of course we're talking about keratin crosslinking as a result of the ultra-high cysteine content of this abundant cytoskeletal protein. It's pretty clear that blowers induce a different molecular conformational change resulting in a more persistent, water-resistant type of disulfide bridg...

Re: Boy does my hair look stupid.

Yeah, Pseudo, its the bikers' messy hair that gave them their rep. (And I know that most bikers don't deserve that rep.) Keep telling yourself that. You're darned right I will. And it's Pneumo to you sport ...... Stacy -- What stumps me is that you can't fully rescue your hair even after washing it...

Re: Boy does my hair look stupid.

You should take up motorcycling like I did 20 years ago. Almost everyone doing that has stupid looking (helmet) hair, so you'll feel right at home in that crowd. Unlike motorcycling though, I wash my hair within minutes of waking up and "going public" with my blower hair ("hose head"?) so it isn't m...

Re: Leak rate doubles, AHI halves - what's up with that?

Thank you for that rapid response, which makes a good deal of sense. You would indeed expect the false negative rate to go up with increased blower compensation for leak.

Just the sort of thing I was hoping for. Man but this forum is an excellent resource ....

Leak rate doubles, AHI halves - what's up with that?

Awaiting Viewer 1.0 and experimenting a bit with pressures settings etc, about 2 weeks into therapy and logging the numbers on the machine daily (resetting to 0 of course) – thanks for teaching me about this fellow hosers. First off, my AHIs have been in the 4.5 to 5.5 range for a week and I’m clear...

Re: A-Flex or C-Flex?

New to the game, I was prescribed the A flex but discovered that it was set for C after learning how to crack the silly code. No explanations given by anyone. I don't know if this was a mistake but I'm not bothered to change the setting at the moment. The physical act of breathing on the hose, at pr...

Ouch. Tough spot to be in (lack of practical choice), never been there myself. I have read some (not yet all) of your remarkable "dr killer" thread and, may I say, you should be very proud of yourself, you are the very paragon. And not just because you write so vividly and well in such trying circum...
