Re: OT: Sad News...

Sad news indeed. I had several PM exchanges with 49er over the years, all of them cheerful and pleasant even though they often revolved around our respective health issues. She was, by her example, a civilizing influence on contentious topics, and like so many others here I will miss her presence.

Re: Has Anyone Ever Succunbed To Apnea?

I review hundreds of medical malpractice files every year, and from time to time I see cases in which death or hypoxic brain injury is attributed by experts to obstructive sleep apnea. The common denominator is always that the patient is taking some kind of central nervous system depressant, usually...

Re: Tips for my new Airsense Auto?

I have had mine for a couple of years and like it a lot. It is very quiet and generally trouble free. The one problem I had was an occasional tendency to push the pressure too high and leave it there. My doctor originally set it on some kind of wide open range, 10 to 20 I think. I don't know what wo...

Re: CPAP and TSA screening

I fly quite a bit and have become pretty casual about how I carry my CPAP. There was a time when I used a case and kept all the components in it separate from other luggage, but now I take one carry-on bag and simply toss the machine, hose, mask, and power supply in with everything else. Clothes pro...

Re: OT - Net Neutrality

https://spectator.org/everybody-is-wrong-about-net-neutrality/ I got a kick out of the first comment on this: Good article....I don't really understand the debate but if liberals are in favor of "net neutrality" that means something's wrong with it. That is as much as some people feel they need to ...

Re: End of the medical care deduction (slightly OT)

During the 2016 Election.....25% of Conservative voters were 65+ vs 19% of Liberal voters... The % of age 65 voters has been increasing on the Conservative side and declining on the Liberal side.... ."They Care". http://www.people-press.org/2016/09/13/1-the-changing-composition-of-the-political-par...

Re: End of the medical care deduction (slightly OT)

Seniors will get hit big time on this. Just think of all the couples that spend thousands of dollars a year on long term care ( assuming they don't have long term insurance ) Right now they can take money right out of their IRA ( via Required Minimum Distributions ) to pay for it and they pay no ta...

End of the medical care deduction (slightly OT)

The tax bill introduced today would repeal the itemized deduction for medical expenses in excess of 10 percent of adjusted gross income (7.5 percent for oldsters). I don't intend to comment pro or con about the bill as a whole -- I'm sure no one wants to relive the ACA debates of 2009-10 -- but this...

Re: Service Dogs For Sleep Apnea?

My dog added some helpful perforations to my hose that could save my life in a pinch if the electricity fails and the anti-asphyxiation valve becomes stuck.

Re: leg numbness after sleep

My experience involved pain rather than numbness, so it may not help, but I mention it just in case. After I began using CPAP I started waking up in the morning with frequent pain a leg, usually at the hip. It could be intense but always faded quickly after I started moving. In the end, I decided th...

Re: prescription for CPAP supplies - Is an office visit needed?

I lost my sleep doctor when I changed insurance, but I monitor my results and everything has been going so well that I haven't felt the need to find another yet. My primary care physicians are always happy to renew my prescription when I need to buy a new mask, and I recently found out that a physic...

Re: FDA approved??

I clicked through to look at the paperwork. The interesting thing about the FDA approval is that the company got it by representing that its product is substantially equivalent to an existing product. In other words, they promise that they are nothing but copycats. This is a normal process. If I wan...

Wow! Just wow! What a treat to see how that's done. One of my all time favorites. The same guy also does the opening of Passion Play.

Re: Remember that CNN headline about cpap not helping?

We are indeed an ornery bunch who speak their minds. I don't think CNN deserves too much criticism for this. It was an online story by a freelancer, not a prime time special, and it is no worse than the usual casual science journalism. Unfortunately, most stories in the mainstream press about scient...
