Re: Very big day for me!

Jwerley, When starting down the road of self treatment it is important to take baby steps. Make your changes 1 at a time and log them in a journal including what works and what doesn’t. After each change give your body a chance to adapt before giving up and trying something new. If you are diligent ...

Re: Good Thing I'm in "Acceptance" Mode - LOL

Mad, I do not post often but read on a daily basis. Your trials and tribulations are burdens to you that you have turned into an inner strength which will help carry you through the rough times. This forum has a lot of caring people that you can utilize to build on that strength. Each drawback shoul...

Re: new to CPAP, intro, looking for hope

Forgetcolor, To date you have received tremendous advice and encouragement. The success of Cpap therapy is dependant on many things including; finding the right mask, learning to understand data and use that information to fix problems, and having a positive attitude. There are others but this is a ...

Re: What does "rested" feel like?

I remember before my diagnosis falling asleep if I sat for more than a minute, not able to watch TV, and always more tired when I got up than when I went to bed. Now I wake up, take a shower, drive to work, and sit in front of a computer all day without falling asleep. There are occasional moments w...

Re: CPAP machine life expectancy

Taz, your machine must have been recording hours it was plugged in... That still comes in close to 5 years... Just kidding, of course. 40000 hours is a very long time and goes to show you that the bell curve is wide. I am not sure that the newer generation of machines have the same build quality at...

Re: CPAP machine life expectancy

... and they tell me my old machine is still up to snuff. Be sure to mention to whoever "they" are that your machine has 19000 hours on it. I believe the life expectancy is closer to 15000 hours. You are overdue for a new machine. Also, ask "them" what a typical life expectancy in hours used is for...

Re: Your Choice, your Vote

Why is it that new people come here and state what a great place this is, and then want to change it? Gazhack has many valid points but in his enthusiasm to contribute lit the fire under some people, not about the content, but the act of banning free speech which is a hot topic always. In the proces...

Re: Long-Term Effects

It would be nice to have some lung trials on newbies just starting out but again there are just too many variables, like polution. I quit smoking a year ago as it was effecting my treatment also it left a nasty smell in my machine. There must be an increase in lung pressure as we are breathing unde...

Re: What's the longest use of the same machine?

I'll bet a lot of the earlier blowers are still working today. I suspect the System One and the S9 have each been built to wear out after about five years. Planned obsolescence is a science in itself, today. Making the machine die after a certain time insures a continued need to build newer machine...

Re: What's the longest use of the same machine?

Since the technology is ever improving, WHY? --Other than can't afford one and this still works (or seems to). Cpap technology is basically the same now as it was over 20 years ago. Some differences include EPR which helps the user breath out easier, smaller machines that take up less space, Quiete...

Re: What's the longest use of the same machine?

I used my first machine 14 years. I only remeber it was a Resperonics black and it was about 15 inches tall. That thing was so loud I needed a fan blowing to drown it out. Only reason I got a new one is because i had a sleep study, my pressure changed and nobody had the took to make the change. Neve...

Re: What to do?

Nate, Using a Cpap is probably one of the most unnatural thinks for a person to get used to. The only way that you will ever be successful is if you stop looking at the negatives and accentuate the positives. You have a means to relieve your sleepiness, and with a little work will start feeling bett...

Re: OT POLL: Help me out. Is Mars' treatment of me justified?

I do not think that words can solve this disagreement as emotions have taken this discussion to another level. I do have a solution if both parties can at least agree on it. Lets find a neutral location, set up a ring, and have a no holds barred cage match. We can sell tickets and get sponsors like ...

Re: My son the trooper

SU, I find that my mouth breathing is positional. When I sleep on my side I have leaks and on my stomach none. At his age it will be natural for his system to fight the unnatural feeling of the mask and air. Has you son worn the mask while awake? He needs to get his body accustomed to it so it will ...
