I have been using the ResMed Mirage Activa for nine years. I have found it very good for side sleeping. It works well with high pressures.

I have used it in my nostrils without problems. Only a light coating, of course. As long as you don't inhale it, you shouldn't have a problem. It should be safer than petroleum jelly or even Vicks vapor rub.

Provigil saved my life. I was falling asleep while driving!. I took Provigil until I could get a sleep study, then kept using it for a while after I got my bipap. Pretty soon I didn't need it.

Some masks have a port for people to use if they need supplemental oxygen.

I just want to offer some encouragement. I also fell asleep at work, driving, etc. Your bosses need a note from a doctor, but your doctor does not seem the least bit helpful. I hope you find a solution soon. Sorry about all the preachy posts above.

There is an immense difference in the amount of pressure that I feel when using the Activa rather than the Swift.

And I CAN talk with the Activa on, even at relatively high minimum pressure.

I would be concerned though, if I could never get my AHI under 7. I can usually manage around 1-2.

My advice is to absolutely avoid ANY machine that has a top pressure of 20. If you are at 19 now, you may need 20+ in a year or two.
