Re: Swift FX Headgear
I loop a leg of the infamous Rested Gal pantyhose tights through the blue elastic strap and tie it under my chin using a Rested Gal flat knot. Not only does that keep the strap from slipping off, but it keeps the pillows snug against my nose, reducing leaks.

Re: Res Med S9 exhale noise
The S9 seems to have that exhale noise if the humidifier reservoir is filled even a little too much. I've found that if it's just filled barely to the line, it's noticeably quieter.

Re: CPAP machine with built-in filtration
Ah, yes. I certainly do remember the search for my senior design project in biomedical engineering. I'm glad that was more than 35 years ago. I echo the others in saying that your hunt is not over. You haven't found your project. Distilled water is only for avoiding lime scale buildup in the humidif...

Re: Standalone Humidifier/Pressure Question
Hi, Maddy;
I guess it's possible that the humidifier could have a slight pressure drop across it. The only to know for sure is to measure the pressure before and after the humidifier. As an experiment, you could try bumping up the pressure by 1 cm to see if that helps.

Re: Restless Leg Syndrome
A number of us have RLS/PLMD, and also use CPAP. I've not heard of anyone using CPAP expressly for RLS, nor have I heard of anyone getting relief from RLS by using CPAP. CPAP stents my airway open so I can breathe while I sleep. Medication, gabapentin in my case, keeps my legs from thrashing.

Re: boiling stuff
As long as the silicone parts aren't resting on the bottom of the pot, you won't damage them with boiling water. Boiling water (100°C) should not be hot enough to damage the silicone, which is typically cured at 120°C to 165°C. It might be a little soft until it dries completely, as silicone is perm...

See http://www.cpaptalk.com/viewtopic/t52468/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=35424&p=304039&hilit=pictures#p304039 for tips on how to get the device apart. The main thing is to get the innards dried out. It will dry out much faster if it is opened. If it's just water on a circuit board, drying it out should fix...
