Re: Biot's Breathing - ASV?

Thanks for the video, squid13! They are much tidier than I am, that is for sure. My flow chart looks like a two year old tried to draw it. Extremely erratic. But they have the basic idea. Sleeprider, yes, I take pain medication. Also very high doses of antihistamines. I have been on both for a long ...

Re: does anyone have regular checkups with sleep dr

I had mine on file for six. Didn't see a sleep specialist for the last five. The Rx said forever. All of the sudden, I couldn't get any supplies. It just started this January for me, don't know when the rule changed. You can check, I could have been told something incorrect, but that is how it seems...

Re: does anyone have regular checkups with sleep dr

Just found out from my sleep doctor, who I hadn't seen in six years, that Medicare now requires you to see them every six months (or yearly? Sorry, I forgot which) in order for Medicare to pay for supplies. I guess if you use it for the rest of your life, you will get very familiar with your sleep d...

Re: Biot's Breathing - ASV?

Hi Sir NoddinOff! From Pubmed, it looks like Biot's is ataxic breathing, in other words, the flow chart looks like the path a drunk would walk, totally erratic, with periods of hyperventilation, hypoventilation, and central apneas. Sounds like difference from Cheyne's Stokes is the erratic nature, i...

Re: DID YOUR SLEEP REPORT SAY HYPOXEMIC RESPIRATORY FAILURE?

It can be scary when you read something like that. My report that I just got does not say what yours does, but mine says Biot's breathing, which upon looking up basically said, " You are on the quick road to death through respiratory failure. " Fortunately I kept looking, and it sounds like they use...

Re: Biot's Breathing - ASV?

Thanks, Pugsy! I thought I remembered you used a nasal pillow. I wasn't sure if you were using BiPap or ASV. I intend to try the nasal pillow first, and only go to something else if I can't figure it out and have too much leaking.

Biot's Breathing - ASV?

I finally had my titration study two weeks ago, and had my follow up appointment yesterday. When I went in, the recommendation was for BiPap, but mentioned that all the apneas seen were central apneas, but I had not tolerated ASV. Discussing this with my doctor, I questioned this, as I knew that I d...

Re: Migraines and OSA

OK, here are some references: CPAP Improves Migraine Burden in Patients With Sleep Apnea June 26, 2013 BARCELONA, Spain — For migraine sufferers with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) treatment can decrease the frequency of migraine attacks, their duration, an...

I found him! Thanks for alerting me. Plus he is talking about things of interest to me, as usual. Have to keep my eye open for SWS, just in case.

Re: New ASV User Needs Advice on Machines

At the very bottom of the PRS1 machine, there is a 1/4 inch or so thick piece of foam rubber. It sits on top of the bottom cover for the machine. As air comes in the back of the machine, this forms the bottom of the air path and all the air flows around on this foam, so if it's stinky, you'll smell...

Re: Migraines and OSA

I will have to look to find references, but here is what I know from my own case. I have a Patent Foraman Ovale (PFO), or a hole in my heart. Many people do (10-30% of population), and it is never seen in echocardiograms, or even causes any problems. For some people, it can cause migraines, TIAs and...

Re: New ASV User Needs Advice on Machines

Sorry to hear you have this problem too, Tatooed Lady! I will definitely let it run by an open window as much and as long as I can.

I wish all those air fresheners would go to the dump ASAP! They are pretty nasty, and are having an effect on even those who don't know it.

Re: New ASV User Needs Advice on Machines

Thanks everybody for all their feedback. It is good to hear they both would be good as far as therapy. Pugsy, I agree with you that deciding treatment will go well is an important aspect. I did that when I started CPAP, and slept well from night one. And the S8 was a long time ago, and all kinds of ...

New ASV User Needs Advice on Machines

I've been on APAP for over 6 years now. Haven't been on the forum for a while, but I learned a lot here. Seems there are a lot of new names now. I did pretty well until the last year. I thought maybe my unit just needed to be replaced, but my sleep study showed I now have central sleep apnea, along ...

Re: Continued troubles sleeping

Good news, Tony! Hopefully now that you are sleeping, you will develop some tolerance for the pressure when you are falling asleep. Fixing the leaks might also help keep the pressure from going so high. Wishing you the best of luck for things to keep improving. To timbalionguy, I can't remember wher...
