Re: Hypopnea questions

Suggest doing more reading about hypopnea and UARS. There are some excellent old threads here-look for threads & posts by SWS and Rested Gal. XPAP is appropriate treatment for UARS and hypopnea. Although some insurance companies may not want to pay for the machine if you don't have apnea--your sleep...

Re: Product Challenge Chinstraps Fail To Please CPAP Users

DO ANOTHER CHALLENGE WITH THE PAPCAP. I was disappointed that you didn't include the PAPCap. The chinstrap works. I left behind one of my BiPAP power cables on a trip and could not get hold of a replacement. I got by and sleeping well-using a boil and bite mouthpiece and the PAPCap for 4 nights; als...

Re: Oh the joys of living in the country

I have two 3 yr old dogs, a brother and sister. The male was born with impaired vision and hearing (or else is just plain stupid). The female is supposedly brain damaged having been kicked in the sternum by a goat , collapsed, was given CPR by the ranch hand and rushed to a nearby vet (or else is ju...

Re: How many times can RT's be wrong?

Don't worry about hurting anyone else's feeling when it comes to your treatment. Learn to manage your day-to-day care. And a word of caution about day-to-day care and changes in settings. Don't rely on just 1, 2, or 3 nights of data when making changes. You could cloud your decision making by change...

Re: Would Weight Loss Help?

My GP said obesity is the #1 cause of sleep apnea and losing weight would help. My Stanford sleep specialist's first words to me when I was diagnosed were along the lines of, don't think this is a weight problem. Losing weight will help your general health but not your sleep apnea. I have lost weigh...

The PAP-Cap Advantage

I recently reviewed the cap giving it credit for allowing me to successfully use the Activa mask which really does not fit me--it is too big. In spite of the size problem the PAP-Cap held the mask in place so well (Res-med headgear was useless) that I have used the Activa for a couple months essenti...

Re: Torture or blessing? Why do you like CPAP poll.

If "they" (doctors) told me tomorrow that my sleep apnea was cured-I'd still use XPAP at lower pressure. After a life of allergic rhinitis and nasal congestion interruping my sleep-it is no longer a problem. The warm, filtered, humidified air has eliminated my nightime congestion-as well as daytime ...

Re: PurSleep (xPAP Aromatherapy) SURVEY

IF it had been either lavendar or eucalyptus/menthol I would have tried it. Anything else might get sniffed as I tossed it in the trash.

CPAPcap Review

Well the cap is great-it works! Looks like my chef's cap (until I add the chinstrap and mask). Some background on my problems-small head and mouth opening when asleep. So I use a homemade chinstrap. I had pretty much given up on the Activa. Resmed's headgear was hopeless, way too big. I modified it ...

Re: Auto Delivery of Supplies?

OldLincoln SleepQuest is the outfit Dement is "affiliated" with in some way-consultant or something-there are some legalalities about how physicians can be part of DME suppliers. Does Medicare pay for your supplies? My insurance would pay its share AFTER Medicare is billed-even if Medicare denies a ...

Re: Is SDB progressive?

Aging itself is, in a manner of speaking, progressive. The "natural" progression of snoring to OSA is not merely mechanical, ie elogation of the uvula, it is due to neurological damage from the vibration of the tissues-similar to the damage in the hands of jackhammer operators. We are not looking at...

Re: Headgear

Have used Opti-Life, Bravo, Hybrid, and a couple othersnone of them had sized headgear. The headgear for my standard sized Activa must have been made for a gorilla. The FP petite nasal mask did have a smaller size headgear.

Re: Is SDB progressive?

YES Brenda-that is exactly the question. No weight gain (in fact I've lost), the RLS is minimal with medication (and did a couple months without that med to see if it made a difference). As to possible reasons for it to get worse....it could be age related....loss of muscle tone ....the "firm years"...

Re: sleeping pills

I have chronic insomnia, RLS, and OSA. I've used Ambien (and now Ultram for the RLS) for over two years. I've tapered off Ambien and Ultram for "drug vacations" to see how I reacted. There is a rebound insomnia if you go off Ambien abruptly-but not a true addiction. Never had any problems except a r...
