No noises or anything, I think it is just the light that is defective. The warming plate does heat up. If anything else messes up I will look at returning it. I guess I can live without the light after everything I have been through in getting the right machine. Thanks for all they replies! You guys...

Finally after months of wrangling and eventually firing my DME over giving me the s9 Escape in error, I got the S9 autoset yesterday.
