Re: Check out Crane Facemask- An Alternative??
The Crane Facemask is not as uncomfortable as it looks. Only wear it during the day and stick with the dental device or machine at night until an Xray shows measurable opening of airway. Losing weight also helps greatly. Hopefully it will get a bunch of us away from the doctors, the insurance compan...

The oral appliance is very effective (add the nasal strip) but let your sleep study doctor/dentist help with the decision

Re: genioplasty for osa treatment
Google "crane facemask". This may be a way to move your jaws forward to open the airway without surgery and without causing any occlusion problems

Check out Crane Facemask- An Alternative??
An new alternative that may get you off the machine. It looks a bit cumbersome, (google "Crane Facemask" but it looks like all you need is a dental impression of your upper jaw and the Crane device (and better yet--likely no braces or surgery )

Went the Orthodontic Route
After 3 years with the machine I took the next step. It's not the easiest thing to do adult orthodontics, but it seems to work. What they do is expand your jaw width which draws the jaw forward and then use braces like the kids wear, to draw the jaw out further, opening the airway, and also fix the ...

29 months with Quattro cushion
I just gave up the ghost on my initial quattro cushion after 29 months, and had to buy a new one. I'm guessing if you change your cushion or hose more frequently than every 12-18 months, you've overdoing the deal and making supplies more expensive for those who self-pay. The dental device works fine...

I got tired just reading that first post. I prefer the easy way--Do what the physician says "Put it on at night and take it off in the morning" and I'll see you next July

Dental Device-Update
I did go for the dental device to use while I'm on the road. I wear both the device and mask while home just to let my mouth and jaw get used to it. I find that wearing the device alters the profile of my chin a bit, so I've had to adjust the headgear straps for the resultant leaking. When I take th...

Re: Help for my noncompliant father in law?
Hi, I am a new CPAP user myself and (with the exception of a mask rash and some issues with head colds) I have had a remarkably smooth transition to nightly CPAP use. My 72 year old father in law, on the other hand, was diagnosed with OSA many years back, prescribed a CPAP machine and has never rea...

Re: How does your boss treat you concerning CPAP?
I am by no means a skinny or slim person. In fact I am overweight and I am the first to admit it but I really don't find it fair for others to judge someone diagnosed with sleep apnea and say that you wouldn't have that problem if you would lose weight. Well, that is what my boss has told me, on se...
