Re: Political Question: What do you suspect will happen...
My expectation is that as the Goobermint exercises more control over the insurance companies and limits their ability to adjust premiums while concurrently requiring they provide coverage to more and more folks is that they will start reducing coverage levels or use internal policies to force people...

Re: Effective sleep calculation
I don't know that you can make such a "mathmatical" formula out of it. You need deep sleep (stage 3/4) and REM sleep for your body to repair itself and be healthy. You may sleep "X" hours and not get either. In my initial PSG, I never got past stage 2 and had no REM sleep at all in a 6 hour period s...

Re: Swift FX pillow quality question
Thanks Linda. I'm not on medicare but discovered care first will cover new pillows every month. My DME rep was adament the rule was 6 months but the regional manager happened to be on location yesterday & verified the 30 day guideline. Very happy. Most insurance will cover a MASK every six months a...

"A long strange trip it has been..." Describes my journey through the maze of DME providers and insurance when it comes to CPAP. "Surreal" is an understatement.

Re: Does REMstar Auto C-Flex require a SmartCard?
Without the smart card it will work but not record data. The settings will be the same as they were. When you change settings via the card, the machine changes settings when it reads the card. If you change the settings via machine with the card inserted, it will overwrite the settings that were on ...

Re: suggestions please - autocpap self purchase
I'd call insurance to see what they require. For example my insurance requires pre-authorization for DME purchase over $1000. Under that, just need the documentation of need (rx from doc). Even if your insurance pays a lower % "out of network" you may save by going to cpap.com. Network providers cha...

Re: Startling Revelation this morning
There comes a point when we all are confronted with the harsh reality of our mortality. As Sleepy Taz said, enjoy what you have. Life is too short to worry about (even if you aren't on the hose). Soon the hose and mask will be just another part of your routine. Once you get used to it and find your ...

Re: Newbie: Advice needed on choosing first nasel mask
I have gone through a lot of masks. I have been using the ResMed Swift FX and love it. Very light weight, allows sleeping on my side without being pushed around by the pillow, comfortable in the nares and no leak problems.

Sounds like you really got your money's worth on that machine! I've notice huge improvements in the 4 1/2 years I've been on CPAP, so you might be surprise at the bells and whistles available. You can also check cpapauction.com for equipment.

Re: Survey: how much do we want new treatment options?
I am a big fan of "Keep It Simple". CPAP is simple and more importantly it works. Not invasive Not chemical Not cheap, but not unaffordable. Masks have greatly improved over the short time I have been on it (almost 5 years) and my current mask (Swift FX) is almost like having nothing on. As another ...

Re: Hey KatieW - I just ordered my first ResMed S9!
As a recent new owner of a S9, I really like it. I had an M Series auto, then went to a P/B Sandman Auto. I remember thinking the Sandman was an improvement over the M Series, and now I am sleeping better with the S9 than I was with the Sandman. Same pressure range, same AHI numbers, but the S9 seem...

Re: How long did it take you to start sleeping all night on cpap
First two nights I woke up a couple of times to figure out where fart sound was coming from, adjust mask, and go to the bathroom (pointless as ever). Third night I went to bed and woke up 14 hours later in the exact same position I had gone to bed. I couldn't remember the last time I felt so rested,...
