Re: Disrupted sleep and Alzheimer's?
Healthy sleep is also linked to memory. One study I read showed a link of stage2 sleep spindles to the transfer of short term memory to long term may oriels. Also REM stage is essentially when the brain defrays the memories and associates the long term knowledge to past memories. And this is just th...

Re: Another Newbie with Newbie questions
If you have a blood pressure cuff, start taking your readings for a history. OSA is a cause for high blood pressure and since your OSA. Is being treated, you may not need as much medicine. Take the blood pressure readings to your doctor for assessment.

Re: How big a gap is there between mask sizes?
Finding the "right" mask , along with adding the "right" attacements is a matter of time. Look into the Pada-Cheek line of mask inserts to keep your mask in that sweet spot. I know CPAP pillows are sold at Penneys that accomodate side sleepers. The dreaded chin strap is an option, There is always yo...

Re: Cardiac Patients: A Reduction in 30-Day Hospital Readmission
Fantastic find. One problem hospitals are having is that a CPT code is not chargable for in patient sleep studies...either clinical or type-3 monitoring device...is not available. (If I am wrong please tell me this). I would jump at the information of having an in-house sleep study for cardiac pts. ...

I agree, numbers look good. One additional insight will be an overnight pulse oximeter test.....or just go to your local pharmacy ant buy a finger pulse ox that will give you your high and low sat levels.

Re: Husband new to CPAP, a couple of questions.
In additon to finding out where the normal vent holes are on the mask, the manufactuer's web site will tell you about acceptible leak rates. I agree with Pugsy, that a mask leak that is too high will take away from the effectiveness of the machine and that snoring while on cpap is an indicator of pa...

Re: device for awakening arousals
There is an app for that....lol The motion detector of your smart phone will detect movement through the night.....so.....search for any app that will measure that. Just remember that it picks up ANY movement: you and your spouse. this will give you a rough idea as to the number of aousals you seek....

Re: Bi-Flex vs. C-Flex - Complex Apnea
Your assessment that the CPAP with C-flex will not make much difference in your treatment is correct. The ASV part of your machine is supposed to eliminate the centrals. Usually, when I titrate a patient and I see centrals happen in either CPAP or Bi-PAP- I back the pressure off abit. I do not know ...

Re: Symptoms next day problems
You may still have a oxygenation problem. If you have friends in the medical/nursing, home health field- borrow a pulse-ox sensor to monitor your oxygen in your finger through the night...or go to a local pharmacy and purchase one for about 50 bucks....or get an order from your doctor for an overnig...

Re: JUST GOT TESTED
There are a few things you can do to get tested for essay without insurance 1. Look for a facility that offers cash payments for testing 2. Look for a facility that offers home testing that is cheaper than a clinical sleep study 3. Go to Walgreens and buy a pulse oximeter to test her oxygen level th...

Re: OSA + CPAP + booze = ?
You should also know that booze will alter your sleep cycle. It tends towards (but not preventing) you from stage 3 and REM stages of sleep. Long term abuse has be documented to keep a person in stage2 while sleeping. While you will get to sleep faster, by not cycling thru stages 3 and REM on those ...

Re: Using my machine but still a little tired, few dreams
Remembering dreams is normal for many ppl; however a percentage will never be able too. This is also normal. I use a wonderful "app for that" called "Sleep Cycle" for my Ipad to help me track moving throughout the nite. While it is not documenting everything during sleep; it has the option of moveme...

Re: Sleep Apnea and surgery
In the lab, I have heard similar stories for other options too. Namely, the UPPP and tonsillectomy for your age group. One of my sons had the tonsillectomy with painful and much less than expected results. CPAP continues to be the best option for OSA treatment. I realize it is not a feminine option ...
