Re: ASAA Support Forum is gone, gone, gone

I don't normally make these kinds of comments. But.... If you use an ASAA forum, I recommend using the MyApnea.org forum, not the Facebook Forum. With Facebook, there are always security issues, even if people use the security measures. There are security issues and risks using any part of the inter...

Re: CPAP Education Outreach

(I'm typing this on a break from some tedious writing, so I welcome a change from my boredom ) Personally, I think your discussion of outreach is perfectly fine. Don't feel defeated. Hey, when I was diagnosed, few people had heard of the term sleep apnea. Sleep what?? Happily I had a doctor who had ...

Re: Are OSA Patients Apathetic?

JQLewis, I am assuming the OSA of your website is for Obstructive Sleep Apnea? My suggestion is that you don't limit to obstructive. Sure, it's the predominant condition but it might best to stick to SA or something like that. Also, you might include questionairs on your website (unless they are the...

Re: Are OSA Patients Apathetic?

I agree a lot of it is broke. But not all. Sure, lots of people still get undiagnosed. But it wasn't so long ago that no one even heard of the term sleep apnea. I also have noticed in the past 9 years (of my using cpap), that more and more of the doctor offices I see check for blood oxygen levels as...

Re: Are OSA Patients Apathetic?

As to what advocates should advocate for, I think that's obviously an important question. At the same time though, it's a bit too simple. First of all, you can't advocate for anything without first representing a lot of people. If you represent an organization with 12 members, who's going to listen...

Re: Are OSA Patients Apathetic?

JQLewis, I enjoyed reading your thoughts. If you were, say, a SA Advocate, or some other lofty name..... what would you advocate for? Now that might sound like a stupid naive question on my part; you might think, "isn't it as plain as the cpap mask on your face?" Well, not necessarily, IMHO. And who...

Hi Linda!

Good to see you posting here again. I checked your posting history and saw it's been a few years.

Take care and don't be so reclusive. OK?

Re: New here! Camping with Respiratory Therapists

Hi Denise, If it were me, I would ask for a copy of the sleep study reports while there. Ask everything you can think of. And don't sign the papers until you feel comfortable with the answers. Be sure you understand the insurance payment system and that everything is clear. Most places have a 30-day...

Re: Unsupportive spouse,

Kathy had such wise words. And others have had great suggestions and questions. Some cpap setups are quieter than others. And perhaps your wife can incorporate the use of white noise as a background, some people sleep with a fan in the room (I do, with or without the cpap). Hopefully everything can ...

Re: Unsupportive spouse,

Hmmm, that's awful. The least she could do is be specific about what sound is bothering you. And I do mean the "least" she can do. It's quite obvious that helping you adjust things so that your cpap can be more accomodating to your wife is not what she has in mind. Otherwise, she would have been spe...

I agree that humidification is an individual thing. But with a pressure of 18, I'm sure that wind tunnel of mine is drying out my nose, my throat, my lungs and maybe even my toes. But I do vary the humidification, even use it as cool passover sometimes. And it doesn't seem to be a seasonal thing, bu...

Interesting, Yorkiemum, I would guess you know all about it, then. I know that as a child I did sleep walk on occasion, but nothing like that. The only sleep walking episodes described to me were of me going to the kitchen to make coffee (to be like mommy, I suppose) and of once climbing up onto a d...

Tuesday's Oprah - Night Terrors

FYI --

Oprah's website says this Tuesday's program will feature:
"Dr. Oz Investigates Night Terrors"

The website says other sleep disorders will be discussed although it doesn't mention sleep apnea.

Wow, I'm so sorry to hear about this. This news made me look back at the first post (or nearly first) he made here. He had mentioned his cpap pressure. His pressure was the same as mine and his words encouraged me to stick with it, letting me know that I would become adjusted to it in time, and he w...

James, My apologies for not having followed your posts enough to know what led up to this. But I wish you well. I hope that your heart is being watched, considering what you mentioned. I know that's viewing the symptoms and not the cause, but that's a symptom you don't want to neglect. I'm guessing ...
