Re: Placebo?
Some people have immediate relief, others it takes some time. You may have just had a "good night" If you don't continue to wake up the way you felt today, don't give up on the machine. There will be ups and downs over the next month or so, but with time the good nights will be more common then the ...

Re: I Just HAVE To Share This !!!
great story but what concerns me is the arrogant patch 'em up and send 'em home attitude our medical establishment has implemented. a simple questionaire or o2 sat monitoring could have prevented the repeat heart attacks. they tout prevention but do little ensure it I don't know that it is the medi...

Re: Battery Usage Time
I really think everyone should periodically give thier backup battery an "acid" test. Differences between machines, changes in pressure, and age of the battery can all effect how much time you get out of it. I recharge the battery whenever I use it, it's my understanding that if the battery doesn't ...

Re: How old were you when you got diagnosed?
I've been symptomatic since I was 7. I was finally diagnosed at 47. My daughter has asked what I would do if I thought they had OSA - my answer is simple - straight to the sleep study. I wouldn't put my kids through the hell I've been through. Froro, I sit listening to my 8 year old, there's this na...

Re: When the Electricity Goes Out
Last power outage my 11 year old came screaming down the hall "Mommy the power went out!" before I woke up enough to realize my CPAP had stopped blowing. Wonderful power out alarm. I do own both a Battery Geek and a Black & Decker 400. I have had good expirences with both, but if size is not a conce...

Re: Harry's Sleep Study (my 6-year-old) Do I Need to Follow Up?
Sock, When I was about 19 I was at the doctor's office with a mother and her young child whose behavior was outragous. After thier appointment the doctor was walking her out and he made the statement "We should make sure that there is nothing physical causing these behavoir issues" I would keep the ...

Re: DME doing periodic checks of machine
wrenn, My insurance company requires the DME to provide them with a compliance report to keep covering my supplies. It's to far away for me to lug my machine in, so they send me a new card to swap out with the old one. If all they are checking is compliance, there really is no reason this can't be h...

Re: The total cpap experience continues: Camping
Carbonman - I use a rubbermaid box (camped in several deluges) - don't usually cover the top - but when I looked at your pictures a thought came to my head. Hole in the side for the hose, would need some ventilation holes, but with the lid on there should have enough insulation to use Georgio's hand...

Re: POLL-How much do you use your humidifier????
I said 50 with an explaination - during the winter months I use low heat (rainout problem). When the humdity starts raising in the spring, I drop it to passover mode (raising the heat again when it starts dropping in the fall). When the temperature and humidity get to the uncomfortable level (July a...

Re: camping with CPAP
I use the Black and Decker 400. Note that while it will run AC, you will get more hours out of it if you use a DC converter. I suggest purchasing a machine specific one from cpap.com - it will cost you about $25 and you won't have to struggle with the question of which tip works for my machine.

Re: Hospital rules and cpap
bigblacklexus, You did say this was 2 years ago, things may have changed there - is there a reason you're worrying about this now? I ended up in the hospital in early June. My first stop was the specialist office - I put on the form that I had apnea - the doctor asked several questions about my trea...

Re: Poll: How many years before diagnosis? Treatment?
My apnea symptoms started at age 7. About a year and a half ago I went in to my doctor and insisted on a sleep study - his reaction was "you can't possibly have apnea". I gave him a compelling response - "I'm tired, and the obvious cause is I'm not sleeping" He was very surprised to find out that ma...
