Re: Weight Gain

The sleep therapist told me that a lot of people gain weight after starting therapy even though they are not eating more, just because you are burning a lot fewer calories when you are sleeping well. But he also said that after a while, you might find yourself losing weight--why? you feel better, so...

It made me think of that scene in Crocodile Dundee when the bury guy in the bar who would balance a a glass of beer on his head and bet that you couldn't hit him hard enough for the beer to topple. Crocodile Dundee kissed him on the mouth instead of punching him and the beer topped.

When I went for my sleep study I had a full beard. The tech, who was great, started with a nasal pillow, but I hated it. We then spent hours trying to get a nasal or full mask to provide a good seal. Nada. He then said give the nasal pillow another chance. I did and fell asleep. I hated it during th...

I also travel frequently--TSA protocol is to always inspect the machine, to do one of those dab things that test for residue. I always take my machine out and place it in a bin, often with my shoes and cell phone. I find that when the lines are backed up, they often don't notice the machine at all, ...

Does anyone know how to explain the differences between a and c flex? Is it just a different algorithm that is intended to do the same thing for the user, relieve pressure on exhale? Or is there some difference in what they are intended to do?

I use a-flex and have not tried c-flex.

figi water: only partly on cpap

The therapist from the DME that helped me with my first CPAP machine told me to use distilled water. I travel a lot and asked him what I should do if I am in a hotel and don't have distilled water. He said use bottled water then. I've follwed that advice a few times, when I diden't have distilled wa...

I have Remstar apap with A flex and a resmed elite 8. My wife thinks the resmed is quieter, but from my side of the bed, which is the side with the machine, I find the remstar whisper quiet and the resmed quite loud. But both are great machines, even if the companies that manufacture them are not gr...

It is possible that the new pricing policy only affects inventory purchased after March. If this is the case, to the extent an internet seller had existing inventory, they would not yet have to reflect the new pricing. This is only a guess, though.

My inclination is to avoid resmed and respironics. On the other hand, this is capitalism and companies are not in this business to do good but to do well. Still, it irks me and the MAP restrictions are capitalism at its worst. But so far, on CPAP.com, I haven't noticed a change in price on resmed an...

Like most of the others who posted here, I have found that my CPAP machine reduces my allergy problems at night. I wonder whether there is something about your particular machine that may be causing problems. Do you have a straight CPAP? If so, it may be that a machine with some type of exhale relie...

I love my CPAP because, among other things, I can sit down on the coach and watch television or a movie without falling asleep; I can read a book without falling asleep; I no longer have to nap several times a day; I no longer have to eat donuts and chocolate and drink gallons of coffee to stay awak...

1. The brick and mortar folk cannot compete on price. They push Resmed and Respironics products. Resmed and Respironics thus need to protect them. 2. The Respironics policy may sound less draconian than Resmed's, but it will prevent comparison shopping on the internet. Respironics must have determin...

I have bad allergies and mild asthma. Before using CPAP, I would wake up in the morning seriously congested. I seem to get a lot of allergy relief with the humidifier running with my machine. Having moist air pumped though my sinuses has, I think, been the reason.

I don't think the issue here is Resmed getting a larger markup, at least in the short term. Presumably it sells its machine at wholesale and the DMEs mark up a lot and the internet providers not so much. So the question for Resmed is what outlet is best for its business, the DMEs or the internet, or...
