Re: Anyone else hitting 30 cmH2O?

Questions I have asked Dave re his settings include, did your doctor *really* set your epap to 5 & ipap to 8 ? Did you change any settings suggested by your R/T ? Reason I ask is that Dave can clearly handle 30 CMs & survive, so why such a low epap & ipap. If Dave himself set those values my advice ...

Re: Anyone else hitting 30 cmH2O?

The 1st thing that is clear from Dave's 1st chart is that the Bipap Auto SV allows raising pressure by a far larger margin than the Resmed S9 ASV. The S9 ASV is I believe, capped at 15 over epap. If anyone has any info that shows this can be set higher, pls post it. Dave has his min ipap set at 8 bu...

Re: ASV: HOW DOES IT WORK?

Dan Thanks for that chart - it is helpful because it shows the new S9 ASV. I can see 3 pressure rises in the pressure hump just to the right of the middle where it appears to really be pushing pressure up to the max. Certainly doesn't trigger an arousal which is one of the good features of these mac...

Re: Anyone else hitting 30 cmH2O?

Daves chart 2 - a lot better than chart 1. But still hitting 30 CMs for extended time.

avi Just to hone in on this aspect of your questions " And since the ASV (or any ventilator) can't do that (push air into the alveolai without the cooperation of the breathing muscles), unless the person is sedated and unconscious, why Resmed has published the following statement:" I believe a vent...

Re: Anyone else hitting 30 cmH2O?

Below is one of Daves charts (the really bad one - hitting 30). It is interesting in that Dave is not exaggerating at all about how long the machine stays at 30 CMs trying to keep him breathing. It should produce some interesting discussion. There are some unusual aspects to the settings and the dat...

Re: Respironics BiPAP Auto SV Advanced question.

Typically how a Biap AutoSV (not the new System One version) ' revs up and down ' is if the airflow is blocked & the internal 'air valve' is opening and closing the airflow to the external port vs redirecting the air backinto the blower fan. The 'airvalve' is modeled on how a loud speaker cone is dr...

Re: ASV: HOW DOES IT WORK?

DSM, It seems to me that you're dancing around the bush: Can you suggest (explain?) how an ASV machine could ventilate a person with real central apneas and hypopneas, at any pressure, if the muscles responsible for ventilation are not participating and the airway is open ? By looking at my own and...

Re: Anyone else hitting 30 cmH2O?

Dave

Just as a reminder can you post your recent charts. Also - the software should support your Bipap AutoSV Advanced. If you were using a new PR1 ASV I think you need the latest version of the software.

Cheers

Re: ASV: HOW DOES IT WORK?

avi ]The question in my above post also relates the these statement. How could this ASV by using the backup respiratory rate at a pressure of 10 cm ventilate a centrally apneic patient with an open airway and normal lungs. Don't central apneas and hypopneas mean the lack of respiration drive? I had ...

Re: hyperventalation?

bipapwife You really do need professional advice on this. It is too risky to start changing his settings on an online forum. We don't know enough about his current settings nor his state of health. Try the DME or Doc 1st. The cost of a visit to them is worth his health - armed with some good questio...

Re: Anyone else hitting 30 cmH2O?

Wow, that's high! Do you need to lose weight? Dave has an amazing story starting with swallowing a bottle of 'drano' as a kid. His lungs would be a respiratory specialist nightmare (trying to figure out what works & what doesn't). But Dave just keeps keeping on (he is no spring chicken) - doesn't n...

Re: ASV: HOW DOES IT WORK?

To the users of ASV: When your using the machine and you get that increased push of air, doesn't that wake you up? Since a lot of problems with not breathing usually occur in the REM stage of sleep, doesn't that mess up your ability to get REM (dreaming) sleep? So if you REM sleep is disrupted then...

Re: Anyone else hitting 30 cmH2O?

I asked this question a couple of years ago and no one else had hit it. I am going in for another sleep study and maybe back to Denver for more testing, but this group is quite varied and if you have hit 30, do you know why? My personal record was about a month ago where I hit, and held 30 for over...
