[quote="Slinky"]Nasal prongs are not as gruesome as the name implies. However, they are longer than the nasal pillows and do enter further into the nostrils than the nasal pillows do. Nasal seals on the other, barely intrude into the nostrils at all. The seals are made to seal on the outside bottom ...

Are you suggesting that I consider switching from a nasal mask to a full face mask or if I started using chin straps would that help my problem? No, I'm only saying that nasal prongs have been helpful to me in getting enough air through my nose, and that they're less uncomfortable to me than the ai...

[quote="Panhandler"]Stevoreno mentioned a problem getting enough air through his nose due to a deviated septum. I selected a FF mask because I've always had trouble breathing through my nose, but found that dry air blowing in my open mouth was equally uncomfortable. I had a chance to try the Fisher-...

Has anyone had any dealings with Rotech Medical or CareMed Medical which is a company owned by Rotech Medical which handles DME equipment and supplies?

[quote="jqp"]They tried a nasal mask on me during my titration sleep study. The scond I fell asleep, my mouth would drop open, the air would come rushing out, and it would wake me up. I repeated that 7 or 8 times and told the tech that this wasn't going to work, and that I wanted to try the full fac...

Re: 1999 sleep study, doctor wants me to have another one.

[quote="tillymarigold"]I just wanted to point out that it's possible to set the heated humidifier so that the air doesn't *feel* hot. The air coming out of your CPAP is room temperature--probably 60-70 degrees. Your body is 98 degrees. So a low setting on the heated humidifier may possibly only heat...

Re: Sleep study in 1999, doctor wants me to have another.

[quote="Slinky"]The type of masks your are talking about where it fits just under the nose rather than on and over the nose are called nasal pillows, nasal prongs or nasal seals. Examples are the Swift and Swift II, the Breeze, the ComfortLite 2 ... I've forgotten some of the others. If you check at...

I would disconnect my CPAP machine; pack it up and take it with me. I know that's a lot of trouble but I look at it this way; if you had an expensive digital camera with you; would you leave it sitting on the nightstand in your hotel room while you were gone? The only time I actually left my CPAP ma...

Re: Sleep study in 1999; doctor wants me to have a new one.

Rosemary B. Thanks for both posts. I'll check out that other website. I'll be a senior pretty soon unless age 52 is now considered to be a senior. About the mask issue; I am presently using a Respironics gel mask which has a gel pad at the top of the mask which I have removed so I can run my headgea...

Re: Sleep study in 1999; doctor wants me to have another.

First of all thanks to all of you who posted. As to the issue of insurance and what kind of insurance a patient has unfortunately my insurance isn't the best but it's all that I have. It's a state/federal based insurance called Medicaid. I spent most of this past week contacting several sleep lab fa...

Re: 1999 sleep study; doctor wants me to have another one.

That mask you use; does it work pretty good? The biggest problem I have had using my Respironics nasal gel mask or any nasal mask; not a full face mask; just one which covers my nose is that sometimes air leaks out and is blown into my eyes causing them to become very dry. I've had a lot of trouble ...

Re: Sleep study in 1999, doctor wants me to have another.

Bill: Is that a list of your equipment at the bottom of your post? Your machine is a CPAP/APAP by Resmed? How's an APAP machine different from a CPAP machine? You have also selected a heated humidifier to go along with your Resmed machine; can you turn the heater off? I don't know if I could tolerat...

Re: Sleep study done in 1999; doctor wants me to do another

Thanks for the post. I have a few questions about things you mentioned in your post. What did you mean when you said don't settle for anything less than a FULLY DATA CAPABLE xPAP? What does that mean? You mention xPAPs, what is an xPAP? Is it a machine like a CPAP? More specialized bi-levels; do the...

Sleep study done in 1999; doctor wants me to do a new one.

I underwent a 2 night sleep lab study in 1999; I went to the doctor the other day to obtain a new prescription for my annual CPAP supplies because my insurance requires it. The doctor went through my patient records and noticed that my first sleep lab study was done in 1999 and he asked me if I had ...
