Re: Outpatient Surgery and OSA
I forgot to mention that the "CPAP in the car" comes with "spouse who goes out to get the CPAP if it's needed". I actually preferred it that way - no sense getting hospital cooties on it unless necessary. No need for CPAP during surgery . Because I was awake, I was able to watch the anestetist at wo...

Outpatient Surgery and OSA
On Friday, I had my first "procedure" since starting CPAP. Removal of a ganglion cyst on my thumb (which is why this message will be short!) I had no idea what to expect, so here's my story in case it helps someone. I told the scheduler at the surgeon's office that I had questions about sedation bec...

Re: OT: Inexpensive Vitamin D Testing
My doc had warned me to NOT supplement calcium while increasing my vitamin D levels. I guess I've found the reason in your post.

Re: OT: Inexpensive Vitamin D Testing
I've been chasing my Vit D levels for a year now.
My doc sent me to an endocrinolgist who tried the 50,000 iu prescription D2 route again, but told me to BITE THE CAPSULE.
Apparently the generic D2 capsules don't dissolve well.
Seemed to work, according to the most recent test.

Re: What is "WITH HEADGEAR" vs "WITHOUT HEADGEAR"?
I ripped the headgear off of my Headrest. I just use a headband around my forehead, with the hose tucked underneath.

Re: New mask and I need some help
I've discovered Weleda zinc oxide cream - it's non-petroleum. I protects my nostril area from irritation caused by the condensation.

Re: A Few More Questions
How long did you use the nasal pillow mask? Are you using a humidifier? It might be worth switching back to the Swift to see if you can accomodate to the "hurricane up your nose" effect. I found it annoying at first, but don't even notice it now.

My bloating went away eventually. I think the body just needs to adjust.

Re: Correlation between CPAP use & Corneal Abrasions?
I had dry eye and cornea erosion problems before starting CPAP. I was already using Muro 128 ointment at night and worked to find a mask which circulated the least amount of air around my eyes (Headrest).

Speaking of batteries, make sure to keep yours charged up. I keep mine around for power outages and didn't realize that the charge only lasts about 6 months.

Re: On creating a new dominant story
One of my first nights on CPAP, my husband looked over and said, "Hey, it's Seven of Nine in the regeneration chamber!" Everything was better after that.

Re: Help with sleeping pills!
Has anyone tried counting backwards from 100 by sevens? Works for me most every time. Apparently, it occupies the part of the brain which is preventing sleep and lets the "want to sleep" part of the brain take over. Last night I needed to run through it 3 different times, getting a different final a...
