Re: Finding Sleep Docs who are more than number readers

I did try using my dental device and cpap at the same time, but I found that I would have difficulty falling asleep, and when I did, I would awaken after an hour or two. So after a number of tries, I gave up on that.

Finding Sleep Docs who are more than number readers

I've been struggling with sleep problems my whole life. Starting in 1994, after hearing about sleep apnea, I started on a long, but fruitless struggle to try to do something about it. I've had 5 in hospital sleep tests, 3 at home sleep tests, 3 CPAP machine, 8 different masks and a dental device. Wh...

Re: Your best night of sleep . . . without xPAP?

In July of 1989 a paper cut morphed into a serious infection (lymphangitis) which went up my arm and landed me in the hospital on strong IV antibiotics (after surgery on my incredibly painful thumb). Despite all that, the not so comfortable hospital bed, and being awakened by nurses at random hours,...

Re: SleepyHead Qt v0.8 alpha

Mark, Keep up the good work! I did a git pull last night and built SH 0.8.5 on my macbook. I reimported all of my old data from the PRS1 data card and all the spor files for the cms50e. There still is the bug that the times given in the oximetry data ignores the start time on oximeter, but instead u...

Re: Where is your breathing?

For me, jaw and tongue position make NO difference; but abdominal breathing works. A former co-worker had TMJ--suffered horribly--I've read some scary stories about the dental 'apnea appliances'. Not for me. As long as my machine works, I'm good. What kind of scary stories? I'm curious. I was told ...

Re: Where is your breathing?

PS I went browsing for apnea/tongue related information and saw a lot of not pretty pictures of tongues and gave up. The reason I post this is to ponder if most people with apnea have larger tongues. According to the pictures I found and information on what measurements indicate 'normal' and which ...

Re: CMS 50E oximeter used on win 7 .32 bit. on a Mac computer

I have two icons for the software for the CMS-50E. Spor review uploads the data from the oximeter. The spor when opened shows a variey of screens. But no data. How do I upload the data to this ortion of the progeram. Thank you for the other answers. That's probable why I can't make a copy of it. Bo...

But in my case the EDS seems to be *much worse* when I use PAP, than when I don't.

Re: CMS 50E oximeter used on win 7 .32 bit. on a Mac computer

I'm using my new CMS 50 E for the first time. The data uploaded into spo2 review & can be accessed perfectly. Three things that I am can't figure out. Spo & Spo Review are installed on a mac computer using VM Fusion and win 7 .32bit ( ResScan software is kept here) !- How do I view & access the dat...

Re: Where is your breathing?

I see what you mean. I try to breathe with my abdomen rather than my chest. I feel that I am taking in more air that way. To see if you are using your abdomen to breathe, just place one hand on the abdomen and see if that is where the air is going. If your are breathing with your chest, keep the ha...

Where is your breathing?

Last month I had an appointment with Dr. Stephen Y. Park. During the appointment he examined me with a light pipe (there's undoubtedly a more technical name for the device) stuck down my nose into my throat. He had me lie on my back, and then make an effort to thrust my lower jaw forward as far as p...

Re: Feeling much more sleepy waking up than when going to sleep

While an AHI of 5.17 isn't terrible, we all strive to get it below 5 and the lower the better. I can tell you that I felt immensely better at 1.5 than I did at 3.5.... so, work on slight adjustments to bring your AHI down to below 5 and as close to 1 as you can get. Sometimes just a minor .5 adjust...

Re: Does anyone check their CPAP when flying?

No CPAP in checked luggage for me. Baggage smashers are good at ruining equipment like that, besides the checked luggage may not get off at the same destination as you. If you know why you shouldn't place CPAP in checked luggage, why care if someone else does? Why check the power cord differently f...

Feeling much more sleepy waking up than when going to sleep

Since using my PAP machines (at least the last two -- a Remstar M series, and the current one a PRS1 bipap auto) I've found on nights when I've slept the whole night (at least don't remember wakening) that I feel *much* more sleepy when I wake up than when I went to sleep. I have to force myself to ...
