Re: How Can I Help?
Don't know for sure how to really move people on this. My wife has had a machine for (likely) a year now, with less than 10 total hours on it. Don't suppose that the prospect of dementia would move anybody? I work as an occupational therapist in a local nursing home, and have run across multiple ind...

Re: humidaire 3i Questions
For my Auto, the run time of the lower blower setting is exactly one hour after the machine is turned off. You will know that it's turned off in that it will no longer be blowing at your set pressure. For the Autoset, the display reads "Settling: off" (the same as when the machine is completely off,...

Re: Why return to CPAP from auto-CPAP?
Sooner or later someone's going to say, "Your APAP can be configured to run as a CPAP." Or something like that. With the APAP as an option, you can always open up the pressure range again, should a given fixed pressure no longer prove to be adequate. I've been running APAP for 2 1/4 years now, with ...

Re: Do nasal pillows enlarge or permanently affect nares/nostril
Gentle pressure over a prolonged length of time (2 hours or more) is the gold standard in remodeling tissue to reduce contractures in joints. I see no reason why it would not remodel the shape of our nares. So, if you're not currently using them, hold on to those large cushions...

Re: Numbness in fourth, fifth fingers
The ulnar nerve supplies the sensory nerve for the fourth and fifth fingers, as well as controlling many of the intrinsic muscles (muscles actually in the hand.) The problem with numbness in these two fingers can originate in many places; at the elbow (cubital tunnel syndrome) is probably the most c...

Re: LT and higher auto pressures?
The average (mean) of the median leaks for 5 days with LT was 0.09; for original for 4 days, 0.13. Mean AHI over 5 days of LT use was 1.94, original for 4 days 1.95. (ResMed machines don't report snores.) I tend to think there's something inherent in the different mask structures/dynamics of air flo...

LT and higher auto pressures?
Don't know if this has been touched on before... I've noticed that, over the last week (plus), pressures on my auto have been running consistently higher with the Swift LT compared to the original Swift. The auto is set 6.8 cm to 10 cm. Four days in a row with LT showed 90% at 10.0 to 10.2 and media...

Re: Swift LT Problem
Folded the part that goes over my ears in half and sewed it that way. Seems to largely remove the problem. The bottom of the strap rubbing the top of my ear was also a problem with the original Swift. ResMed needs to have an allowance for this in their design - something that allows for greater ear ...

I've not found the ResMed 3i to be adequate for Michigan winters, unless the humidity in the room is about 50%. Have used a room humidifier to accomplish this, but then the room is too humid for my wife. Am thinking that I'll likely get a different humidifier for the coming winter. We have a hygrome...

Regarding red lights - there's a reason vehicle taillights are red. So it's not just in the military or in special applications. If I recall correctly from years ago, the rods in the retina, which provide us with night vision, also perceive red light well. Any other color affects them so that they a...

Don't see whether anyone here has yet provided you with how to access the clinician's menu. Well, I won't either - that wouldn't be kosher. A previous thread - http://www.cpaptalk.com/viewtopic.php?t=9958&highlight=clinician+menu - very clearly spells out what you shouldn't do. (Oops - that's for th...

I've heard of folks who had OSA when they were at or under normal weight. It's certainly not beyond belief that some who started out thin gained weight at a time significantly after the OSA started, and that the OSA may have played a significant role in the weight gain. Although not tested for it at...
